I'd have to say Chronicles ONLY because dopey me didn't realize it was such a small set and I got a box. Thus I got like ten billion sets of Urza lands and 1 billion Fountain of Youths, etc. Oddly enough I didn't get a lot of Dragons though ;) But really, I liked all the sets.

I can shed some enlightenment on three of your questions: Probably 2 years, because that's the time between when Mr. Adkinson "challenged" Dr. Garfield with coming up with a "portable" game and the release of Alpha. It was originally called Mana Clash but I have no idea why they changed it...

Some interesting thoughts... I think you are a tad misinformed on what constitutes a rare, at least according to WOTC's criteria. They said it once in a Duelist, but they're probably not simple. Narrow, definately. Versatile.... maybe. All cards are meant to be balanced ;). CT is trying to...

I seem to remember Dr. Garfield saying that Arabian Nights was actually a mistake in design and he'd probably never want to base an expansion off of a real-life culture or story again. But you can always hope (what about the Magic set that uses horsemanship?)

Doesn't Mystic Compass or something from Ice Age/Alliances change lands into whatever you want? Or Jinx? I'm pressed for time so if you don't find it over the weekend I'll see if I can look it up.
