In my experience, usually groups form to have people to play with. But we already agree to play by the "real" rules...

Yeah, but those "alternate" win conditions for Magic aren't necessarily casual (I mean, if someone could get poison or Coalition Victory to work in a tourney, you bet you'd see it. I guess I'm thinking more along the lines of say, winning with a Jawa or something.

The rules are there to provide a basis of play so you don't have to keep asking your opponent "okay, so do you play with the restriction of 4 of every card" or whatever. You can throw out the rules at the agreement of the other player.

But casual doesn't have to mean MP... I mean, were the deck types limited or something?

Apollo made the defensive picks a team option rather than individual players this year, so I had to have the Philadelphia team as a whole be my defense. I dropped them and went for the Patriots? Seahawks? Can't remember now...
