Are the Terminates going to hose you too or are you using them on your turn? I don't think Mana Short taps lands for mana. It just says Tap Opponent's lands and empty his mana pool, while Drain Power is specific about having the opponent tap the lands for mana and then giving it to you...

If you do drop the Kavu's, then probably drop the Wall of Blossoms as the Reverend says. Some possible substitutions are River Boa, Jolrael's Centaur (I usually think of old school cards first :) ), even Mirri, Cat Warrior.

I seriously doubt WOTC has stayed away from errata just because the CPA was created in response to Waylay. It's just common sense to stay away from it because it adds general confusion, or "clunkiness" as you say in your article :)

Nope. You just have to answer the challenge within 5 or so days or it "wears off". You do use up a turn sending the challenge though.
