Not sure what you mean when it comes to allies, but I think white has quite a few more broken cards... And red doesn't do that much to support black. It supports green somewhat, but it's just not the great support color that white is...

Not really. It used Great Furnace though, in order to run Shrapnel Blast. And it used Incinerate/Isochron Sceptre, but the rest was pretty standard...

I'd rather have an Ancestral Recall in my starting hand than a Mana Drain or Force of Will. Also, if I'm going to tutor for one of them, it'll be the Ancestral... Countermagic is good, but card advantage is important to maintain, and Ancestral will often draw more of that potent countermagic...
