    Happy Birthday Ed Sullivan!

Isn't he dead? Oh, THAT Ed Sullivan. Happy birthday. What was the title before the edit?

    Hall of Shame Nominations: Mirage

Up until, I think, late 1999, it was possible to announce a spell, then use LED to get the mana to pay for it, even if the spell was in your hand. So really ANY spell that you were willing to lose your hand to pay for could combo with LED. If anything, the card should have been better back then...

wizards is giving out free decks

I got a white deck and a black deck, but I haven't opened them yet, so you'll have to wait. :p

I just got mine. Turns out that it wasn't shipped from Seattle at all. The packages says it's from Grand Prairie, Texas. I didn't even know that WotC had a facility way down there, but my 30 seconds of internet-based research seems to suggest that it's a distribution place of some sort. Who knew?

Does this season always bring out the nutcases?

Because right now, those are the ones who can put displays up at the Capitol in Olympia. Other groups are already disallowed from doing so.

wizards is giving out free decks

No, because if they shipped it ground to me and next day air to you at the same time, I might still get it first. :p

Yeah, and if that had been the case, I'd have gotten mine first. :p

    Hall of Shame Nominations: Mirage

Nothing here really screams "awful" at me right now. I'll have to peruse the whole set list... Oh, and Lion's Eye Diamond was always a strong card. People just didn't know how to use it back then and the types of decks that exploit it weren't really in force. There was also no Yawgmoth's Will...

Does this season always bring out the nutcases?

Whether I prefer a more or less moderate strategy depends on the situation. Like I said earlier, when I have a great deal of understanding (or even think I do) about an issue, I'm pretty much always an extremist (can't think of a single counterexample right now). When I don't know enough or am...

Does this season always bring out the nutcases?

In my understanding, the key characteristic of any generalization about people is that it takes an observed trait for some of a group and extrapolates that for the entire group (or possibly acknowledges exceptions but dismisses them as unimportant, I suppose). A statement like "people do x..."...

What? Why? And when did I generalize?

Does this season always bring out the nutcases?

I don't think that it's all a lack of conviction. People can have conviction for a perceived moderate position. And I do think most people wind up taking extreme positions on something, even if they're moderate about most things. What I take issue with is setting up two points as the "far right"...

Does this season always bring out the nutcases?

You started with "not at all" but instead of arguing with what I said, you argued with what I did not say. I made a statement about people who call themselves moderate. Hence "People who label themselves as moderates..." I was not defining "moderate." It is indeed what radio talk show hosts...

Does this season always bring out the nutcases?

It's boring. It seems to typically provide stability at the expense of progress. People label themselves as moderates in order to appease an audience or part of an audience and because political thought is not a linear spectrum, there are enough intricacies and enough vague parts for this...

Ah, I love this state. Yeah, that Capitol deal is a circus. Whatever irks Bill O'Reilly the most is cool with me, though.
