Raksha Golden Scrub for the Contest
By Robert Pittman
Raksha Golden Cub would appear to be a card destined for the junk rare binder. Giving all your Cats +2+2 and Double Strike seems like a purr-ful idea but the casting cost of the Golden Cub is rather high. Since the card is probably meant for casual play Wizards ofthe Coast must have thought it was ok to cost it so high. Maybe it was to Purr-ful at 3WW. Being a Legend, I think the lower casting cost would have been ok. I'm sure they play-tested it at a lower cc and came to the conclusion it needed to be as high as it is. It has the restriction of needing to be equipped to even give the bonus so I'll always feel like Raksha is cc'ed way too high.

I guess the most important question is whether me have enough good "Cats" to support a tribal theme. After reviewing my Mirrodin and Darksteel cards I came to the conclusion... it's worth a try. From time to time I do go on and on about how much I like playing tribal themes. A quick review of the potential Fifth Dawn cards gave me a few additional cards to add to my decklist.

My choice's from Mirrodin are Leonin Skyhunter, Leonin Den-Guard and Taj-Nar Swordsmith. The Skyhunter and the Den-Guard are obvious choices but the Swordsmith may need some explanation.

The Swordsmith is a good way to pull the Fifth Dawn card Paradise Mantle and the single pieces of "rare" equipment I've added the decklist. Speaking of Equipment I chose Bonesplitter, Leonin Scimitar, Lightning Greaves and Empyrial Plate. Those cards seem to be the best choices
for purr-ful equipment.

Darksteel gives use Leonin Shikari and the Swords. Double Striking Swords sound fun. Beware of those sword wielding double striking cats. I could have added Skullclamp but I feel like there are enough decks sporting the clamp. If you'd like to experiment with this deck idea feel free to add them.

I added Skyhunter Skirmisher and Paradise Mantle from the Fifth Dawn spoiler. The Skirmisher already has double strike so adding a piece of equipment like Bonesplitter to it should provide some quick beats. The Mantle is in the deck for acceleration. The equip cost is one but if you can get a couple in play it should allow me to play Raksha turn five or so. It's fun the play zero casting cost
spells and the Swordsmith can get them on the cheap. Its no Mox but this deck needs equipment and acceleration so it fills a need. I use the term acceleration in a generic since the mantle is reliant on a creature being in play and the equip cost prevents you from gaining mana if you
move it around. The intent is to leave it on a cat and tap them to cast Raksha. You could pull some cats and add four Steelshaper but this is a "cat" deck.

4 - Leonin Shikari
4 - Leonin Skyhunter
4 - Leonin Den-Guard
4 - Skyhunter Skirmisher
3 - Taj-Nar Swordsmith

3 - Lightning Greaves
1 - Empyrial Plate

4 - Paradise Mantle

This deck is meant for the "Tribal" format. I'm talking about the ninety card version presented over at StarCity by Stijn van Dongen. If you're not familiar with the details check out his article "Giant Spider". My Cat Tribal deck
follows some of the basic concept as the standard/Block version of the deck but adds Green. I could have added Red to the deck but I feel the support cards offered by green
are more purr-ful. Now don't get me wrong, Firecat Blitz is purr-ful but I still like green.
