"Genius is eternal patience."
...And we are nothing if not patient.
Hopefully, the genius will follow .
Speaking of patience, I apologize being a couple weeks late with my "weekly" article. Things aren't working out as well as I'd hoped with my new schedule at work. Because I come home so late, I've barely got time to check my email and to surf the board a bit before I have to go to bed, and I've found it's impossible to try and write while the kids (8 & 5) are around.
On the plus side, I AM spending more time with them, which is terrific, of course, but it IS cutting into my time for doing this.
It's been an interesting couple weeks on the boards, huh? We're up over 400 members now, and, according to our host, Chasden, we're seeing more traffic than ever. [Ed's Note: Yeah, I think we're going to break the 2 gigabytes a month platform!] That's just incredible, and the best part is that most of the newer members don't seem too shy about telling us what they think.
Which is, of course, why we're here.
Welcome, all of you.
You all may have noticed I've had some problems with the Voting Booth. Once again, I'd like to apologize for losing the info on the Favorite Color vote. We'll be keeping the topic up in the Booth itself for a while, according to Ed, so please, if you would, go there and re-submit your votes on your favorite Magic color. That way, we'll have an accurate record to send off to WotC of what our people think.
Speaking of which, from what I understand, The Baron may be returning (YAY!), though I'm not sure how much time he'll be able to devote to the cause, so perhaps it would be better for me to slow down a bit on the posting of new voting topics, at least until he has a chance to catch up a bit. Maybe I should leave them up for a couple weeks at a time?
Outside of all that, Prophecy came out, and it's already being hailed by many of our members as a set made for casual players. I think a lot of it looks fun, but to tell the truth that Rhystic stuff is starting to make my head spin. I know Magic involves some math skill, but in playing "Sealed Booster" with my wife (Prophecy only) I found that the seemingly endless possibilities that occurred every single turn was too much, even for me.
Of course, it probably didn't help that she took me 3-0 one night, and split the games the next night we played.
Overall, I think I like it, and the rules lawyering over Rhystic Cave was actually kind of funny once the NetReps on the MTG-L list decided to leave my Mana Flare alone. I think I'm going to try and make a couple all-commons decks out of the commons in the set, like I did with Legacy. I'm betting Blue, with all the flyers, will be the dominant color, but we'll see.
