Hey, another member of the CPA writing for another site...
Why did you like it,
Crackdown?
I liked Ken's article because:
1. It reminded me of how I looked at Magic when I began.
2. The concept of small creatures for little mana was a revelation, as was life gain being relatively unimportant.
3. His discussion of mana curve was right on the money for me. I didn't understand it for quite some time, until I began reading Magic sites. I still like to play with big creatures, but the little ones keep me alive now.
But mostly, I enjoyed his commentary regarding constructed decks and how they are designed to punish anyone who plays "fair." In a lot of ways, this explained why my early budget decks were getting annihilated in Type 2. I know a lot more now about mana acceleration, disruption, etc.
But as Ken indicates, that doesn't mean I'm having more fun when I play that way. The most fun still comes from crazy deck ideas played casually with my kids.
