Man, I played Magic over the weekend for the first time in about 3 or 4 months, and man, did I make a couple of great plays (or not). One was a regular Magic play and one was a general game move...
I was playing a G/B Sleeper Agent deck, one guy was playing a B/W cleric deck, one guy was playing a Green Dragon/Elf deck with the 5th Dawn cards that give all the mana, and one guy was playing a Broodstar Affinity deck.
The first Magic (mis)play was that I had given the Affinity player a Sleepr Agent and had a Wall of Blossoms and a Wall of Souls out so I couldn't be hit, so he was attacking the other two players. Neither was eager to block it with their clerics or elf (no dragons yet), so they were taking 3 (except the Elf guy had a Wellwisher out and was gaining it back. This went on for 5 turns, so the Affinity player was down to 10 life. I get a second Sleeper Agent out and decide to spread the pain around and give it to the Cleric guy. Well, next time the Affinity player is up, he attacks the Cleric guy who of course blocks with his Sleeper Agent. Doh!
So now later in the game I add a Stampeding Wildebeest, so I can get an extra draw by returning the Wall of Blossoms to my hand and recasting it. I have a Mirri's Guile out so I'm looking at my next three cards which are Mutilate, Ritual of the Machine, and a cycling land. The Affinity player has an 8/8 Broodstar out and I can't remember if the Elf/Dragon guy has a dragon out (at some point he put out Rith the Awakener). So I'm looking at my 4 swamps and am thinking I can take out the Broodstar since if I play it, I would wipe out 4 of his artifact creatures, bringing it down to 4/4 and thus killing it. I'd also wipe out some Elves, a Joiner, 2 Wellwishers, and something else. Plus, I could always gain control of something later, either the Dragon if it was out or a Broodstar and let it die. So I put the three cards back on my library and some comment goes forth and I end up saying that it was the first time I've played in a while, especially with sleeves and proceed to whomp my library for emphasis. Well, library wasn't a solid stack but rather an off-kilter one, so the slippery sleeves decide to shoot out all over the table and I lose my order. Doh!
I put it back and they nicely said I could use my Guile again to see what three cards I would be getting but at the point, I was ready to give up and just said forget it and of course draw a regular land. Couple turns later, the Broodstar (or Dragon) kills me.
But it was a great time playing Magic again and at least earlier in the gaming session, I won with a version of train's B/W/G control deck (I caused the Elf/Dragon player (who was playing either another deck or the same deck) to concede because he was playing with Doubling Cube and that artifact like a Mana Battery only it gets you any color mana and I Deeded once, killing everything 3 cc or less and the Affinity player (who was playing a similiar deck to mine that game) also Deeded, killing an earlier artifact attempt to get out something big.
