TopDeck discontinued

Well, I just got a notice yesterday saying TopDeck has fallen prey to the same factors that the Duelist did and is being discontinued. All I can say is:

"Eh".

Thank goodness one of the options is to get a refund of my remaining issues.

One thing that struck me while reading the notice (and it was probably said when the Duelist went under) is that WOTC noticed that "serious" Magic players were going to the web for their info. I'll probably reiterate but I think WOTC totally missed their target audience if they were aiming for the "serious" players. I felt the Duelist (especially in the beginning) and probably TopDeck should NOT have been concentrating on the "serious" but more for a blend of serious and "casual". I can't argue with them saying that they were losing people (and thus made it unprofitable), but I can't help but feel that perhaps it was the shift towards the emphasis on "serious" in the latter days of the Duelist and TopDeck that caused them to lose people in the first place...

I think Duellist only ever reflected competitive Magic, right from about issue 8/9, if that late.

I forget about things like that.. I'm old! ;)

Sorry for opening up a new thread... maybe I should check out the new admin feature that lets you combine threads... (and I'll probably end up deleting both  )

Chaos Turtle's link to Ferrett's article at StarCity seems especially appropriate now... WOTC says serious players go to the Web yet hardly any pros are writing articles so none are out there? They must be going to the Web for Apprentice or something... :)

...for eery stupid thing I've done, I'd be richer than Bill Gates. Besides, it can be hard to remember these things after you hit the 20s, since you ARE over the hill...
