Superman 'curse' hits film project

Yet another top Hollywood director trying to put the Man of Steel back on the big screen has quit the project.
Charlie's Angels director MCG, who is also the man behind this year's popular US TV hit, The OC, was unhappy about the film's £120 million budget and about plans to shoot the movie in Australia rather than New York.
McG, better known to his parents as Joseph McGinty Nicol, followed fellow directors Tim Burton and Brett Ratner out of the door, leaving Warner Brothers to go back to the drawing board to revive the once profitable franchise.
The new departure has fuelled claims that Superman is jinxed.
Christopher Reeve is, of course, the most notable victim - paralysed ever since falling from his horse.
Margot Kidder, once Lois Lane to Reeve's Superman, has survived a much-publicised breakdown and her Superman III co-star Richard Pryor set himself on fire while smoking cocaine.
George Reeves, who played Superman in the 1950s TV series, died of a gunshot wound to the head.
Kirk Alyn, the first actor to play the comic book hero, followed up the role with a series of uncredited parts.

Notice nothing is said about anyone's success after the film, such as the guy who played Lex Luthor (Gene Hackman?) who has had a pretty successful career and who is generally acknowledged to have played one of the greatest comic villains on the screen, capturing the Luthor's essence.

He was in 3 of the 4 superman movies... funny how things happen that way.

Was there a Lex Luthor in the 4th film?
Superman, Superman II, and Superman 4: Quest for Peace all had good'ol Hackman in them.

The 3rd one (aka: crappy superman movie) doesn't star the infamous Lex Luthor.

What about that Dean so-in-so guy from Riply's Believe it or Don't? He and what's-her-face played in Lois and Clark, WHICH BOMBED! She was hot btw.

And how's about Smallville, is THAT any good?

I thought Lois and Clark went on for several seasons which is a pretty good showing.

I hear Smallville is good but haven't actually seen it.

You're seeing a lot of hot women lately KJ ;)

Speaking of latinos (and this is probably for another thread), but the George Lopez show cracks me up... he was also a great host for VH1's 50 Worst Songs.

I am not a regular fan of that show but my wife LOVES it! I walked into the living room the night it was on and sat down in my chair pretending not to be interested in it. But when he was sitting on that dunking machine and taunting everyone I cracked up. His Mother is the best character of the show, IMO, and NO, she's NOT hot, but the wife is :).

Louis and Clark was definitely on the air for 3-4 seasons. It did really well until they tried to marry the characters, etc. at which point they had some really stupid episodes and it basically fell apart. Add to that the fact that Terri Hatcher was itching to do movies and other racy stuff and it really wasn't good for the "family show" image.

Smallville is pretty good, but don't expect the pure action stuff. It's a lot of the typical WB teenage angst (but far less racy than a lot of their "Dawson's Creek"/"One Tree Hill" stuff.

Hackman was famous well before Superman, such as The French Connection and The Posiden Adventure.

That wasn't the point. To me, the original post seemed to say there's curse that falls on the people involved in the Superman films and listed examples. I was pointing out that there are others who careers did NOT get hurt by being associated with the films.

Hey, at least I'm not postin' the not so friendly news... Howabout an article about a couple of 18 yr olds gettin' into a car accident while copulating in the drivers seat? XD

How do you explain that to your insurance agent? "Oh, we were at the intersection and just had the feeling it was the right time and started at it. The light changed, the guy behind us honked, and I floored the pedal... The rest is history."

How do people like that survive to such an age? You would think they wouldn't make it past the age where sharp objects are readily available...
