Okay, I have a few questions:
1.) What is the reason for this championship? (Other than the obvious reason)
2.) What does it mean to win it?
3.) What does the "winner" or top 8 represent?
1. Obviously it's a 'marketing plan' and I'm okay with that but why can't it be in-synch with other big tournaments i.e. States -->Regionals-->Nationals-->Worlds. This would make sense albeit not such a great marketing ploy, I mean if you didn't make it through States you can't go on and money is lost by whomever runs the tourneys. Also, why is a championship at a time when a new format is still in it's infancy? Ravnica was just released and only became legal Oct. 22 (three days ago!).
2.) The winner of states is the ...what? The best person to buy up all the new rares from Ravnica, is THAT what it means? To be crowned "Timmy Power-Gamer"? Or it means you had the best Kamigawa Block Constructed deck and added no real Ravnica flavor to the environment?
3.) I guess questions 2 & 3 are sorta the same.
I didn't go to states because I had to judge a band show, but I wonder how well attended states were or elsewhere like Canada. If I had been able to go I'd definitely would've considered if was worth my while because I KNOW there are Magic maniacs out there plopping down $$$ for the big rares or worse, ripping off the "unknowledgable" (any age group). that's tough to compete with.
Truth be told, I would've gone to play regardless of what kind of Timmys are out there.
