Selecting 8th: Enchantments and mediocrities

The next selection we've been given for 8th Edition won't get so much heat as the Elves/Birds war. We get to choose between Pariah, Worship and Kismet. Pariah definitely gets the axe, being a creature enchantment. But with Worship and Ksimet, we're being asked to select between two decks. Worship is an excellent card in creature decks, while Kismet is a key element in mana denial decks. With the Static Orb leaving the basic set, will Kismet's effects be as dramatic? Is Mists of Stagnation a powerful enough card to be sued with Kismet?

The way the cards are falling, I think that Worship is going to stay. White weenie is making a comeback, and many players HATE mana denial with a vengeance.

The art vote is getting less and less interesting. The two pieces of art for Goblin Chariot are simply too similar. I guess I'll pick the newer art simply because it has more red.

I voted for Worship. just a better card all around. I would have liked to get a Foil Kismet though. But they would have changed the art. I also voted for the newer art chariot. it looked a little better done.

I voted Kismet because I like change! I expect Worship will win though.

Kismet is too weak and narrow in function.
Pariah is amusing, but has the potential for a truly abusive combo.
I voted for Worship. Strong, yes, but far from unstoppable.

Oh, BTW...this is a first. After looking at both card arts, I actually preferred the 7E art for Goblin Chariot.

I think they picked that card just to break the streak of older art winning.

Anyway, I voted for Pariah, because I think it's overall much more interesting a card.

I voted for Worship because I still have a Saga Worship and I didn't really care for the other two much.

I voted for the older art because I liked the way the animal hauling the chariot looked in that one.

I'm voting Kismet because it's going to be a battle between Kismet and Worship (poor Pariah is frikken dead compared to the other two). I am a beatdown player, so I dislike both. However, I'd rather play against a Kismet than a Worship. Worship is just way too hard to get around, especially for Black and Red. At least they have a bit better chance versus Kismet. So, once again, its a sabotage vote. ;)

On the art, I'd have to say the 7th Ed art looks better, but only by a slim margin. The only real difference is that the Starter art is totally goof-ball, and the 7th Ed has a tad bit more seriousness to it. Seriousness it is! I'm tired of the cards themselves being jokes.

Of all the cards in the world to submit flavor text for...it had to be Orcish Artillery. I've always liked using this card, but the artwork is such a joke. Because of that, the flavor text is going to be a joke. DAMN! My submission:

"No more jokes, or else we blow you up."

Not a winner, but it'll send a message to however the heck edits them.

Red/Black...the creature elimination colors...has a problem with Worship? Black having life loss and everything?

Well, that certainly is one opinion...

Yeah, probably just my bad luck, to run into W/U opponents who either have creature protection measures or counterspells every time I try some way to get around Worship. Too darned annoying.

You know, I was just realizing something. Please don't bump me to the political forum, but it seems to me that Pariah might just be a Ross Perot (yeah, I said that right, not the other way around).

What I mean by this is that Worship and Pariah are both of similar intent while Kismit is a whole different idea entirely. Some people are going to flat out prefer the effect of Kismit. I'm guessing that if this were a vote between Kismit and Worship, Worship would win hands down.

But what happens when you throw Pariah into the mix? A certain number of the people that prefer the Pariah/Worship mechanic will think Worship is perhaps a bit to overused and vote for Pariah instead. If enough people do this, Kismit may win with the final results being something like this:

Kismit 43%
Worship 40%
Pariah 17%

Granted, not all of the Pariah votes would switch to Worship votes if Pariah hadn't been included, but far more would switch to Worship than to Kismit.

I wonder if they are going to do a run off if nothing gets 50%...They've always done top 3 in the past, so I doubt it.

...But the Top 3 votes were always in You Make The Card. There hasn't even been the opportunity for a plurality before.

I voted Kismet. The other two have caused me too many headaches when my friend plops them down with a Voice of All or Cho-Manno. Even when my deck has an answer, it's a pain to just sit and wait to draw it. So, for the sake of my own narrow-minded casual deckbuilding, I went with Kismet (sorry if that seems selfish). The other two just have bad associations in my brain.

On the art, I voted for the Starter Chariot. Like Elrond, I dig the animal more, and it's freakin' Goblin Chariot, so I kinda like the goofballedness.

On a side note, although related: It just struck me tonight that I really hope Giant Cockroach comes back in 8th. For a vanilla card, that's a fun one to play with...

On another side note, although related to the first side note: My girlfriend and I went to a party tonight and left a half-drunk Coke in her car. When we got back to her house, I went ahead and started to chug the Coke so it wouldn't go to waste. After a gulp, I noticed it tasted funny, but I thought it was just the warmth and staleness from sitting in a car. I gulped again and knew something was up. Something was also moving around in the can. Yup...a freaking cockroach! Dangit.

 Y'almost swaller'd a gaint ****(roach?!!

*theorgg vomits.

In one of the seventh packs I got for my birthday, there was a gaint Cockroach, but there was an inkstain across "roach" that made it quite a bit darker... I also had an Urza's Legacy one with the same glitch!

When someone asked me to make her black deck better, I pooled my good black stuff in with hers and made a pretty good deck with the Nightmare she had as the top rung of the mana curve... and she loved pulling out her giant ****roaches, but she didn't like the word "roach" too much, so she left it off... Everyone thought it was quite funny, too... though she got some strange looks from people walking beside the table when she announced it.

It was quite funny, because she refused to ever use the Bid2(14) card from Give Me The Brain, because of the rule that we had to say the quote from the card when playing it...

Lol at theorgg's friend.:)

Here in Florida, the roaches have kept out of our condo, but there are a bunch out on the balcony. I've had ones run across my feet, just up my leg, and such. Ick. Glad I haven't drank one yet.

If you had been 'real" friends, you would have put the Coke someplace comforatable, with a blanket, some water, and something convenient to puke into.

What if the Coke had decided to go for a drive? Huh?

For shame.

...@ the last few responses.

The truth is, I kinda like roaches. I like all bugs, really. (I've been referred to as "The Insect Rights Person" for not wanting to kill them.) There's something about all that that makes my little encounter more amusing to me. Why would he come after me?

It is very interesting to see how this turned out. If only Kismet had won, the metagame would be a lot more interesting right now (or so I think...)

Also interesting is how WotC used Worship as a showcase card for "how good the 8E layout really is." Doh...
