Reporting in from Nationals

Day one is over now, so here's a little report from me (as far as I remember it).

Round 1 - Red Deck Wins.
Game one I won the diceroll, so I could start applying some pressure. He had problems dealing with my Troll Ascetic and Kitchen Finks, so when his hand was empty, I could swing in with my Treetop Village as well, safely playing Slaughter Pact on his Blood Knight.
Game two my opponent started with a turn one Figure of Destiny, and I never got any removal for it, so was beaten to death by an 8/8 flying first strike beat-stick.
Game three was the closest match all day. I got up very high due to multiple Primal commands and Kitchen Finks, but he got a Figure of Destiny again. When he got it to 8/8, he was already down to 4 life, but I only had a Murderous Redcap, against his persisted Redcap and active Keldon Megaliths. I had Sudden Spoiling to get rid of his Figure, but when I got a Nameless Inversion, I realised I could win immediately if he killed my Redcap. I attacked, he blocked and killed it, so I targeted him with the ability, then used Nameless Inversion to get it's power up to 4, which was enough.

Round 2 - Reveillark
Reveillark is absolutely my worst matchup, and this time I was facing Bram Snepvangers, one of the best Dutch players (which says quite a lot, looking at the field today). Game one I thoughseized, saw that he had just 4 land, Prismatic Lens and Body Double, I chose the Double of course, but then he just topdecked his combo together in a few turns.
Game two was even worse, even though I managed to Extirpate his Reveillarks, he could still kill me with Sacred Mesa and Mulldrifter through the air.

Round 3 - Swans Combo
At last I got lucky again, this is a pretty good matchup for me, especially after boarding, when I have access to 8 split-second spells which disrupt his combo.
Game one he tried to combo out, but I had double Slaughter Pact to stop him, and a Nameless Inversion for the Swans he topdecked next turn.
Game two was a total blowout. I had a Krosan Grip for his first Seismic Assault, and when he got another one and played Swans, I again had double Pact to stop him. He complained it was unfair I had so much removal, and I couldn't really disagree, along with this being a great matchup, I did got pretty lucky with my draws :D

2-1 after the first three rounds of constructed, not too bad.

Draft: LLM
I opened a Dauntless Dourbark, and was passed a Vigor for my second pick. I drafted some solid Trees, and happily opened a Nath of the Gilt-Leaf in my second booster.
My deck wasn't very heavy on removal, but big trees usually get the job done.

My first opponent had no answer to turn 2 Banneret, turn 3 Dourbark. With the same opening in the second game, he did had an answer after a turn. Then however I had already topdecked Vigor, which beat him to death.

Second round my opponent was playing Merfolk, and he simply couldn't beat my larger trees (although a 9/9 trampling Dourbark did help game 2).

Right now I'm going 4-1, resulting in a 17th place out of 108 contenders (due to a rather poor OMW%). I'm not sure if I'll have time to update you tomorrow, as it'll probably be a long day for me. Here you can read some "live" coverage :)

Some bad news from me, I didn't made top 8. Due too some bad pairings in standard (0-3 against monored, monored and ehm.. monored) I ended on a 6-6 record, finishing 43rd/44th in the field.
I'm still happy with it, and I'm fairly sure I know what I'll be playing next week in Copenhagen: something which is better against monored :D
