Pledge of Allegiance, what gives?

Just like leading prayers, and participating in them is optional...

The pledge should also be optional. The institution should not condone nor banish this option, just allow it to happen if someone chooses to participate.

One option might be holding a brief stating of the pledge somehwere in the school but having the pledge started by an individual. If this occurs, members of the institution may participate only if they choose to.

There is no happy answer, just an answer. And if you all haven't noticed, the scales of justice do tip a little one direction.
