My horrible Price of Glory deck

First off this deck is really just built around my fascination with Price of Glory. I always liked the subtle effects this enchantment had on game decisions. Instants are no longer played at your opponents EOT and Counterspelling became painful indeed. So I decided I'd take this card come up with a simple theme and roll with it.

It's sort of a land destruction/Rhystic deck. Rhystic Syphon is probably my 2nd fav behind Rhystic Study. I figure it's either give me 5 of your life, or sac 3 lands...not a bad deal. Rhystic Tutor more or less turns into opponent sacs 2 lands.

Since it's creatureless I had to roll with some stiff critter control. Thus the 4 Terminates/Edicts.

Mana Short/Drain Power turns into a land sweeper once Price is out.

I'm not to sure how I'll win though. I imagine either through Subversion slowly poking away or through one big Dingus Egg explosion...probably a little of both...Shivan Gorge is in there for fun as well.

Are the Terminates going to hose you too or are you using them on your turn?

I don't think Mana Short taps lands for mana. It just says Tap Opponent's lands and empty his mana pool, while Drain Power is specific about having the opponent tap the lands for mana and then giving it to you. It's like using Icy Manipulator to tap the City of Brass; it causes a point of damage but doesn't tap it for mana.

Personally, I think you're light on the LD and creature control but it's hard since you're trying to go three ways. The only suggestions I can make is Nevinyarrl's Disk for enchantment control and maybe Purging Scythe for continuous creature control (could be a sideboard card). If you do end up dropping the Mana Shorts, I'd say more LD or creature control like that black spell that's like a Drain Life that also uses red in the X portion.

Terminates will *poof* turn into sorceries once Price is out. Maybe if the creature is hasted I still might us it at instant speed. But they’re mostly in because of their efficieny at creature disposal.

I'm really iffy on Mana Short’s ruling. As it ends with "empty their mana pool". This leads me to believe that yes land is being tapped for mana but since it also drains your pool:

A: You can't burn somebody
B: They can't use the mana being tapped this way after the spell resolves.

As opposed to just - Tap all target player’s lands-

Maybe our Stern Judge (Eric) could sort this out for us..or maybe Train could help us out here.

Your 100% right in that I'm trying to do too many things however none well. As I play it more I'll tweak it. The Plantm is to slow their mana production just enough for the chance to drop a Price and follow up with a drain/short. Picking off their minor annoyances along the way. The kill coming fro a combination of Dingus Egg, Rhystic Syphon and Subversion. Will it work...probably not however it'll be fun to try :)

I'd say post it in Rules to get a better shot at them answering, or at least EricBess. train must have missed it here.

At Crystalkeep, it has "It even taps lands that don't produce mana". That leads me to believe that it just causes lands to tap.

This was created during a time when mana floated between phases and you took mana burn at fewer places, such as EOT and before an attack (I forget when exactly, but it was different from what it is now), so I think it was more a response to that sort of thing, when people floated their mana more.

For a land to produce mana, its controller must specifically activate the ability producing mana. Mana short just taps the lands - ala twiddle - and then looks for any mana in the player's mana pool and empties it. So there is no mana generated by mana short's tapping lands.

View it as - Mana Short doesn't force a player to draw any mana from the lands. Though something like powersink does - in order for them to try and pay the sink's cost...

If the lands aren't tapped for mana, Price of Glory doesn't trigger. So unless the opponent wishes to draw mana from them before the short resolves - the lands won't be destroyed by price.

Do note that mana short taps lands that do not produce mana as well - ala oasis...
