Multiplayer R/W: Pyromania

Hmm... there is nothing like a good fast game of Magic. Direct damage and Furnaces of Rath allow for that. Life gain slows things down. Accordingly, I have concocted this --

Pyromania: (60)

Red (23)
4x Furnace of Rath
4x Sizzle
4x Mogg Fanatic
3x Flame Rift
3x Arc Lightning
3x Shard Phoenix
2x Subterranean Spirit

White (14)
4x Venerable Monk
4x Defender of Law
2x Paladin en-Vec
2x Story Circle
1x Ivory Mask
1x Pariah

Artifact (3)
3x Copper Tablet

Land (20)

12x Mountain
8x Plains

Concept:
The goal is to speed up games, even if you don't win them. Furnace is a good way to go, as is the global burn of Flame Rift and Sizzle, and the upkeep damage of Copper Tablet. So far, playing this deck proves this point, even though I have lost...

Venerable Monk provides just enough life to not draw fire, unlike the use of Congregate and Soul Warden.

Arc Lightning is a riot with a single Furnace in play -- more so with multiples.

Though possible to survive through Pariah, Ivory Mask, and/or Story Circle, my numbers chosen are based on cards available, not optimal choices.

Enlightened Tutor, Shivan Gorge, Balance, Zuran Orb, and Disenchant would all benefit this deck immensely. Maybe even Glacial Chasm. But until I posted this, I hadn't thought of them. We shall see what version 2 (and some judicious trading) brings us.

Rolling Thunder! Now that's a great card with the Furnaces. Something should replace those flame Rift's, 1 late game will just sit in your hand tempting you by saying "you know you want to do 32 damage with me, even if you kill yourself". Flameshot is very nice too.

Mogg Maniac would be very nice in here also. Not only does it work with Pariah but Shard Phoenix pops it too.

Rolling Thunder is an excellent idea. Luckily, I have a handful in my "useful, non-trade binder" box.

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of adding Glacial Chasms to this deck, in order to survive the late game Flame Rift for 32 (really the whole point of the deck).

What other red creatures have pro red, besides the Subterranean Spirit?

"Hello my name is krichaiushii, and I'm a Glaciaholic." Just kidding. Now I'm going to have to get some to try them out.

I think that is the only Pro-Red Red creature in Magic. What about the Crimson Acolyte from Invasion that is inherently Pro-red and can give pro-red to each of your creatures.

How do you think Energy Bolt would work in here? Also, the formidable Bosium Strip could work.

Sorry about harping on the Glacial Chasms in more than a few posts, but having just traded off a number of them, they have been on my mind.

I guess the phrase "don't know what you got til its gone" plays out once again. Like the time I sold the Mox Sapphire for $30 and two Underground Seas, only to watch it get resold the following week for $100... easy come, easy go (at least I profitted a bit from it).

I might have to go with the Acolyte, if only to play diplomacy games with people... not a bad plan, actually...

Energy Bolt could work... as could the Soltari Guerrillas, but they die sooo quickly anymore.

Don't worry, I really am going to try to acquire a few.

I know what you mean, I traded my 1st 2 Bad Moons I owned for 2 Syphon souls (which I thought were rare, hey I was playing for 4 weeks) and a Dragon Whelp. Thankfully I picked up 4 for $8 later on.

--

I dont' mean to plug websites, I usually don't like it when others do, but the place I got those Malignant Growths for $.49 and $.99 Soltari Champs (and the rev. Bad Moons for that matter) is http://www.mtgsingles.com. His Limited stuff is priced about average, but Dark-Prophecy he has some killer deals. Worth a look if you're a card buyer. Sorry.

Thank you Spiderman.

Running Keepers of Kookus forces me to play Kookus himself, just on principle. Hmmm...

white removal stp possibly. nothing more discouraging than some blue mage stealing one of your prot red creatures.

Leave has been good to me. Yesterday, I got a 4th Copper Tablet, and 2 Martyrs of Korlis, which are going in here, likely to replace Flame Rifts...

The point removal is better thinking than what I obviously displayed, as is Repercussion.

All comments are read, considered and appreciated, thank you. Any other comments on this deck?
