Mono Blue control ?

First, let me say that I'm not a blue mage, and never played a blue deck as a matter of fact.

But there is a first for everything. Going over the 7th list I noticed the Arcane Laboratory (2U, enchantment, Players cannot play more than one spell per turn) and thought it it might combine well with temporal adept (1UU, T, return target permanent to owner's hand) to create a new lock/ bounce deck.

Kill would be provided by haveing your opponent concede once the lock is in place or by any one creature on your side going for the kill.

Here is the decklist I cam up with: 2 Misdirection
4 Arcane Laboratory
4 Counterspell
4 Force Spike
4 Memory Lapse
4 Foil
4 Sleight of Hand (much better than Opt IMHO)
4 Fact or Fiction
2 Millstone
4 Temporal Adept
2 Wall of Air
2 Glacial Wall
1 Creature X for the alternate kill
20 Island

For creature heavy decks, SB full of hate with Evacuation, unsummon etc ...

Does this make any sense and could it be transformed to a playable deck or is it Junk ?

I have no clue what may t2 will be looking like so really cant gauge this deck.

Thanks for your input

Arc Lab is generally considered a sideboard card, but I always found it intriguing to design a deck around it.

I don't like the Force Spike, even Daze would be better I think. If you're going to use Foil, then 20 lands may be too light, which may be too light anyway. Playtesting should reveal the proper amount. Have you done this yet, vs Fires, Skies, NetherGo, FlamingPile, Fish, SkutaSkizzik, MonoBlack w/4Addle4Durress, OrbOpposition, Magdalen, etc.?

vs Fires, you HAVE to have a way to handle 3rd turn Blasty and 4th turn Burst, and you seem to have that in your counters, but I would be much happier to see WashOut in there as well. Hibernation in the sideboard is practically required.

Creature X, eh, you only have one. Idol, Blind Seer, if only Dragons were mono. Oh, well. Sounds like a nice idea. Tell us how it playtests.

Are You open to adding black?
Because I think "Yawgmoth's Agenda" fits with "Arcane Laboratory".
With "Arcane Laboratory" in play "Yawgmoth's Agenda's" draw back won't bother you at all (actually it would give You card advantage, I think).

Now just figure out what You want to do with it, maybe get double the use of Your counters, something along those lines.

Black would also help with sideboard "Cremate" for instance, "Lobotomy" maybe "Tsabo's Decree".

Some Counterspell creatures like, Spiketail/Drake Hatchling, Stronghold Bio./ Mach. I think would help, allowing You to counter and still be able to cast something on Opponents EOT like, "Fact or Fiction".

Just some random thought's.

Recoil could certainly be added in a B/U construct.

However then I am not sure That the heavy black investemment for the agenda (3BB casting cost) would make it worth it.

The idea is to create a lock equivalent to the tradewind riders days.

with 2 adepts into play and the possibility to play only one spell a turn, you can absically bounce the threats they play (unless they obliterate or Rage with kicker).

I will be trying the mono blue first then go onto variations of B/U.

Warped devotion would be nice with the adepts mmmhhh...

I'm actually a blue/green mage, and I might have a few tips for you.
First off, I wouldn't use Foil.

Replace the Foils with someother counterspells. Power Sink is good, and if you can afford it, Force of Will.
As for the Force Spikes, I'd say ditch 2 and add in 2 Daze. The Spikes are better first turn than the dazes.

Also, replace Memory Lapse with Arcane Denial. Your opponent drawing extra cards shouldn't be a problem.
Also, I would replace Wall of Air, and maybe add something that would help you draw cards. Something on the line of Opportunity might be good. You'll need some Telepathy's. Trust me, they're very good in a control deck. I know I'm leaning a lot on the counters.

Boomerangs are a must. They're basically a second chance. If someone gets a City of Solitude through, you're screwed.

Add a few Islands, and I think you'll do fine.

Oh, and try adding Parallax waves. They'll help in giving you control over the board....

Good luck with your deck!

The deck, as it stands S*CKS big time.

Most of the time I would lock myself more than the opponent.

O play a dozen of matches to no success.

Hop - to the trash.

This has got to be one of the rare times when the designer of the deck admits it sucks after testing... no offense, just found it "refreshing" :)

Here's what I would do.

Take out Force Spike, put in Daze.

Take out Thwart, put in Dismiss

Take out a few Islands, put in Stalking Stones. Trust me. This helps the deck more than you will ever know

4 Temporal Adepts seem a bit much. Take 1 out and put in a Rath's Edge.

That's what I can think of right now.

Multani, Ransac : I was trying to make a t2 deck.

If not I would simply take the Tradwind riders and other goodies of the time ...
