I guess we'll see if everyone likes bacon...;)

I'm surprised a lot of design people were not on development...

Not sure how it works out, but the teams probably ebb and flow with differen members from different areas at various expansions... like Mark Rosewater said, he's been there 8 years and has only been on three design teams (I think - either that or lead designer).

So is design not involved in playtesting - and just development, or what's the deal... I'm kind of off as to what the difference between design and development is...

Wouldn't the designer know how it works best, and when a developer has improving ideas, wouldn't the designer be the best to speak with...

Sorry - just stuff I've been learning in school lately...

I don't know the difference either in terms of WOTC and not sure if it's been mentioned before... I actually think design is separate from playtesting, as in during the design part, the set is actually being thought out and ideas brainstormed and discarded, whereas in the playtesting, the cards have pretty much been set and they're just tweaking costs and balancing, with the rare exception of finding (hopefully) a broken card that it has to be dropped immediately.

That's how I picture it over there...

Actually "tomato" is the codename for the last expansion of Mirrodin. The middle one is "lettuce."

I was laughing my pants off when I first learned of it, and I'm still quite amused with someones fondness for food.

Isn't gluttony against an eastern religion?

Gluttony is one of the sins to the superstitious believers in the christian myths.

Come on! Time to code name a block:
Father, Son, and Holy Goat :D

They might actually do that....

It's actually not that hard to come up with a cycle of three related names. Any word on the two blocks after Mirrodin?

No, I mean the complete sets of blocks after the Mirrodin block, of which Darksteel and 5th Dawn are part of). Since they design and playtest 2 years in advance, they presumably have at least the codenames made for those blocks.

They were mentioned somewhere... but I don't remember where... I'll search if I can find the time...

I'm glad that in the naming sense, they still have some fun and show their sense of humor. Though "Boron" and the like, for the Odyssey block, sucked.

As for the other two blocks, they will honor tournament goers with new phrases:

Arm, Pit, Funk
Deadly, Butt, Rot

They might take those into consideration - if you let them know about them...

In all the premier tourneys that WoTC goes to - they don't usually see or smell all those things...

Oh, they smell them, but for WotC employees, that sort of stuff is "sensual" and "exotic aroma"...THEY LIKE IT!!!

Which is why they promote tournaments so much.

Actually, I think it's more that the participants like it/don't mind it. After all, it doesn't seem to drive them away... :)

The WOTC employees on the other hand have to be there. Maybe it's punishment...

Maybe it's punishment...
MaRo - hey judge intern... what do you think about our taking counterspell out of standard?...
Intern - I didn't like it one bit Master Mark sir. I think countering should stay at the top of the game, not be pushed to the bottom...

MaRo - Oh - so you're a Buehler lover huh?!...
Intern - no sir, I just..

MaRo -Shut, it!... - *dials extension...* Hey Rune, it's Mark, - I've got another PT volunteer for you... No, he hasn't been exposed to chemical warfare yet... *snickers...*
