Okay, so as you may or may not know, suggestions are now being taken for the name for the new format, and a vote will be held later. I sent this in as my suggestion...

I noticed that Type I has recently been renamed "Vintage." Since the word "vintage" usually means "the yield of grapes from a vineyard during one season" this makes no sense at all.

It is only appropriate, then, that the new format receive some irrational title that has something to do with grapes and nothing to do with cards. And so I present "raisin" as a name for the new format. It has everything to do with grapes and nothing to do with cards. Plus, I am positive that players will want to try a format that has a cool name like "raisin."

...now here's where you come in. I think, that if this name makes it onto the poll, it has an excellent chance of winning. The problem is getting it onto the poll. But if lots of people send in "raisin" as a suggestion, that might change things. This is the first opportunity for us to make "raisin" the name for an official M:tG format. Let's not blow it. Send in your own reason why you think "raisin" should be the new format's name...

You can send in your raisiny suggestion using this link...

I think this is an awesome idea. I just sent-in mine.

The problem I see, however, is that I don't think Wizards is really going to take any suggestions (no matter how many) to heart, unless they're ones that they want to see (this has already been demonstrated mnay times before - the most recent example being 'Selecting 9th Edition', not that I really care what goes into 9th).

It's gives me a great visualization, though, of the poor suggestion reviewer. "Raisin!? RAISIN!? Why do they keep sending me RAISIN!?"

Wow, I woulda joined this, but I make it a point to not participate in WotC's garbage.

People say, if you don't vote, you have no right to complain. True for the real world, I guess.

But in the case of WotC, I like to take George Carlin's advice on it: If you VOTE, then you're to blame, because you voted for this crap! You have no reason to complain about the outcome. Its the people who didn't vote in this crap that have right to complain. ;)

Do any of you ever wonder if the You Choose the Chaff in 9e is a parody of the Bush-Kerry thing? All choices trash, and the people can be counted on the make the wrong choice?

Yeah, I'm kind of worried that the name for the new format will be something dumb, like "hyperextended." Actually, that might not be so bad. I can offer to play "hyperextended" with someone, and then perform some hyperextension... :D

Let's not name it after wine, but alcoholic drinks. From this point on, I will call the format:

BLOODY MARY!!!

I say Bloody Mary is a nice name, a little funny, a little mean. And all around good to the last drop. Like a format should be, right?

Actually...

Before I picked raisin I was considering...

cabernet
gamay
Gewürztraminer
malvasia
merlot
muscatel
scuppernong

I decided that Gewürztraminer was too annoying to say even for me, so in the end it was a contest between raisin and scuppernong...

The problem with "raisin" is that it DOES seem random to people who know Vintage means something other than "from a vineyard" and thus won't even be seriously considered. You need to pick something that can tie in with all the definitions of "Vintage".

What? You mean the definition of "vintage" that reads: "Old or outmoded"?

Nah. Raisin works fine. The relationship is that both are about grapes, not cards...

Sure, vintage can refer to anything that is old or outmoded, but it doesn't make any more sense to apply that to Type I than it does to apply grapes to it...

Besides, why would you not want to play in a format called "Raisin"? :p

Actually, it could probably mean "Characterized by excellence, maturity, and enduring appeal; classic" which would probably fit your liking more.

And the only time raisin could be applied to it is if they're old and outmoded grapes.... :)

Wait, which one of those words are you trying to apply to Magic, because I'm not seeing it... :p

The new legendary Kamigawa Mox. That's right, since it's legendary, they can make it way stronger than they normally would... :D

Heh, just kidding...
