We get a lot of comments from the competitive-oriented players, and I felt we needed to balance this with the point of view of the more casual-oriented players.

I'd appreciate some comments.

The page above shows the following links:

Link to Pox Primer Draft by Le_Lepreux and Rakso
Link to Revised Draw-Go Primer Draft by Rakso

Thanks in advance for any comments.

I think it might be interesting to have a few primers devoted to "over looked" strategies, that a casual player
would find interesting.

Such as:
Crackdowns; Task Force
Dave's; Greater Good

Several other people have signature/casual ideas that you might consider also. Those are the one's that came to mind.

Okay, we can look into stuff like that. Heck, if you guys care to write anything, why not (as long as it holds up to the standards set for those articles)?

One guy tried writing an Elephant (using Elephant Graveyard) primer once. :)

However, right now, I was hoping to solicit advice specifically on the latest batch. They took a while and a bit of research. Frankly, I need a break from all that editing and writing. :)

Hope you guys enjoy them and learn new things!

I loved that card! It was my first "oldie", along with some Deserts, so I made my first R/G/W deck using War Mammoths. They turned out to be peripheral to the deck, but hey, I got a lot of "what's that?" when it came out :)

Good idea there Rakso, why don't we start making more of these? I enjoy history, and Magic history is even better...

I'll get working on one serious one for my favorite: Control Black.

Beyond that, I think it might be good if perhaps we started creating our own archive of casual primers.

Agree? Disagree?

Emperor:

I agree. What would a casual primer look like?

Would it only discuss a "casual" deck?

Or only "casual" strategy?

I think there's no such thing as "casual" strategy since there's only good and bad strategy.

As for the decks, we tried to make our primers broad enough that a guy can tweak anything based on what he likes, as long as he understands what basic good strategy is. :)

Also, what exactly do you mean by control black? An Extended deck that runs on 4 Vampiric Tutors? Type I versions, due to Tutor restriction, rely on certain disruptive cards like Nether Void and Pox, and Pox is somewhat similar in structure to your US Nationals FLores Black decks.

Rakso, do you want us to answer here or on the BD mills for improvement ?

I (quickly) went over the Rec/Sur primer and I would just have the following comments :

I do not feel that "stupid green" should be within the Rec/Sur category.

I would however add the Tradewind survival, as it is a "degenerated" rec/sur deck where black -hence recurring nightmare- has beeen cut off.

I think the stupid green deck should be part of a "green control" primer.

Also from a MP/casual player point of view, the REc/sur version with opporsition is best gearing toward MP and will tend to have a wider variety of creature cards for reaction to what other may play.
Living death is a key card for MP.
Ealy defense (more walls) and life gain are also key to a MP version.
Here are the cards that should definitly being played in MP:
Sex monkey
Spike feeder & weaver
hermit/opposition combo

rakso: After most of the primers are done, can I do a Very Stupid Red Burn Primer? That's Very Stupid Red Burn, not just Stupid Red Burn.

There wouldn't be much danger of me doing research incorrectly; I would only need to look here: http://www.magic-singles.com/cpa/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4361

Obviously no one could use this as a serious piece of strategy literature; that's why I probably shouldn't write it just yet.

Mundungu: Hey, those are GREAT comments! I suggest you instead e-mail them to JPMeyer or simply post them at the bottom of the RecSur draft in BD. He may get back to it come vacation.

Thallid Man: Um... yeah... sure! :)

You know, I never realized how glad I am to hang out here as well. Sigh. Those Phyrexia people can really get annoying as hell. :)

You guys should see what they're saying. THIS TIME. On BD. :) (weird, huh?)

Wait, Mundungu: The mono green Survival deck was mentioned under Stupid Green Deck in the mono green primer. I just didn't have a decklist at the time. I can still slip it in.

Head over to CPA issues, I have a thread that describes my idea over there. I should have my multiplayer Black Control one ready by Thursday or Friday.

I couldn't find it.

Anyway, I think that's a good definition for "casual" Emperor.

Certainly, BD isn't the place to focus on multiplayer strategies, but CPA is it!

How about posting your draft there, too, so we can have some kind of "tech transfer"?

Casual tech. What an oxymoron. :)

It's called "Perhaps there is yet more work to be done." It's about the only recent thread started by CE.
