I didn't take any note for this game because, quite frankly, I wasn't in the running for the final standings and two I sorta had lost my "edge" for the game. I like to sit down and blend into the environment and just play Magic.
Well, that idealology won me the game. It was a 10 player game and I was in a four way tie for 7th place for the final overall standings so what did I care about it. As I did last time I played I busted out a Pre-Con deck for the heck of it. I used "Beyond the Grave" a BGR Coldsnap pre-con. The basic theme was recurrsion with a couple of spells that brought creatures from my graveyard back to my hand and those spells had "Recover" which meant that whenever one of my creatures went to my graveyard I could pay the recover cost and bring that spell back to my hand.
One by one players were getting knocked out including our very own Mooseman & Youngbeard, who I hope could chime-in (either one) and help me remember some stuff about the game. I pretty much never missed a land drop but I never laid down a real threat and I think that led the players to think I wasn't a threat (I actually WASN'T a threat). Next thing I know there were three players left and I was one of them.
~weird~
Anyway, I had enough mana (like 14+ lands) that gave me the resources to keep my recurrsion thing going. I had this one card called Baulduvian somethin or other that was a 2/3 black creature that had the ability that let me pay 2R and remove a creature from my graveyard from the game and I can put a 3/1 creature with haste into play. Well, I had a bunch of creatures in my graveyard near the end of the game and I patiently waited for the right moment to attack but not over commit. That was a good since the final opponent had 3 Hideous Laughters in his hand (a black instant that gives all creatures -2/-2 until end of turn).
I slowly wore him down and won. A stupid pre-con, some smart strategy, and a winning personality
, got me a win for the first time all year in the MML.
We had our annual end of the year meeting and I'm the Chairperson again since I first started the league back in January 2005. We decided to make the minmum deck size for the MML at 75 cards in an attempt to "Casualize" the MML even more so and maybe to put a stop to Killer Combo decks.
It was good time and I had an immense sense of accomplishment winning a game with a non-altered pre-con.
