Gaming for the Holidays

A warm and generous Holiday greetings to all!
<YJ gets a 'warm fuzzy' feeling during the Holiday season:)>
Well, the holiday season is here and basically doesn't quit until sometime after the first of the year (approx. 6 weeks in length). As I'm sure with all of you, friends and family visits become a little more frequent. Whether it's your doings or not, most of us have to endure it. So why not introduce Magic: The Gathering to these folks!? Nothing says Happy Holidays like a hugh multi-player game with cousins you can't stand or your parents friend's -younger than you- little boy(s).
That's right, introduce them to the power of Masticore (hey, who said you had to keep it type 2 legal?) or the agonizing frustrating pain of Tradewind Rider. Make your Holiday visits more interesting by comming out of the closet and showing your "MTG Geekiness", if nothing else, they ostricise you and hope you never return with your "Satan" game. Better yet, they may actually LIKE IT and "BOOM!", you have yet another place to go and play your favorite TCG.
For those of you who like a cushion to hide behind when displaying the game, go out get a the Starter Kit or make simple portal-esque type decks from your thousands of commons laying around. You just make like four or five 40 card decks of various, but equal, types (I recommend you skip the black cards for those of you who live in "The Bible Belt"). This way you can play duels OR multiplayer games (sidenote: Unless you want to be totally BANISHED from this place you're visiting, I wouldn't mention the story side of MTG, too many will think it's "D & D" and not that that's bad, but people just get 'weirded-out' by that stuff ;)).
We're holding Thanksgiving Dinner at our house this year and though I'll be the one 'babysitting' the 7 - 11 year old boys (they all love 'Uncle Mark' because he plays a game with Dragons and Wizards), I'll be showing them how to play Magic so that they can get to their Mom's and Dad's before the gift giving holidays are over :).
Please, share with 'us' your holiday gaming plans with family and friends who've never played before.
Viva la CPA!

...I'll be going to Canada for this holiday; I'm going this Thursday night actually, and not coming back until January 1, 2001. I love it; I can't believe my parents are letting get out of school for that long...

I'm going to my cousin's house. Sarah, and Noora. Both females, both go to college. I'll be going there to see what's up with college and stuff, while meating my uncle and his wife. The thing is, I don't think they'll be interested in Magic, not because of whatever, but because they don't have much time to persue such hobby. They'll probably like the aspect of the game, but they will only follow it the time I would introduce it, so why should I bother? They love the cards' art though; they told me that the last time they were at my house.

Happy holidays to all. :)

I'll be at my grandmother's house for Thanksgiving, along with a million relatives, none of whom are near my age except my brother (two years younger).. so he and I will likely be playing Magic most of the day.. Thanksgiving is boring.. I remember last year at Thanksgiving, we were playing Magic, and I beat him with several Cursed Scrolls from one of those blippin' championship decks (you know, the ones with the gold border and the different back.. I used to love them because "they have all the good cards!")..

What exactly is Thanksgiving?

We don't celebrate any feast like that in my country... Nor Halloween...

I'll be having some middle-aged aunts and uncles over. Somehow, I can't see any of them being interested in MTG. On Christmas, I'll be seeing some cousins I like. I tried to teach them to play Magic once, and they liked it, but their mom thought it was satanic, so...

that's out too. I won't be doing much gaming this holiday season.

I think I have it the worst. See, my local gaming store (where I go to play Magic) is considering calling a moratorium on Magic throughout the holiday season. So I'm faced with a month and a half of NO opponents. Blech!

NeuroDeus: I believe it's a tradition celebrating the survival of the Pilgrims through their first winter where over half of them died due to starvation. Largely to the help of Squanto but also other Wampaugh(sp?) Indians, the survivors were able to plant a good spring and summer harvest to make it through the next winter and had a feast to celebrate.

Thanksgiving is pretty much an American holiday. Halloween we took from Celtic? (All Hallow's Eve) or Druid tradition but I think it's celebrated in some form in other countries (maybe not the trick-or-treating aspect).

I beat my brother in the two games we played.. first one I Armadillo Cloak-ed a flying creature (don't remember which one, silly me) and finished him off with me at 30.. *grin*
second game he was manalocked and I just beat him..

So yeah, it was a good Thanksgiving ;)

...here I am, Montreal, Canada. It's boring here! There's like nothing to do! Oh well, I got my laptop with me, thank GOD! The only thing I could do in here is, um...watch some television. I'm glad I understand French; there's a lot of it here. My cousins are nowhere to be found, it's like they come in, stay a while, and then leave somewhere they don't want me to know about because everytime I ask, they just laugh like I was a looser in a party or something. I managed to sneak up to their rooms and see their current Magic cards collection; they're still in Uraz's Saga block. I guess they didn't collect anymore...Ok, enough of me sharing...Someone please, take over. :)

[me] has concluded that Louisiana thunderstorms actually compete with Texas... [/me]

Unfortunately, most of my relatives down here are fairly extreme Catholic/Baptists, and wouldn't appriciate Magic worth anything. Thus, I brought a Brian Selden's championship deck (if you want to learn to play well, play that thing for a few weeks) and my B/R deck so I could screw around with the mana ratios, but that's it. Fortunately, I'm outta here in a few days, and can return to my peaceful home and school, and to my girlfriend...

We don't have to go to school for a whole week. Yes! Besides that, it was a pretty boring Thanksgiving. Since, we're not Americans, my family and I see no need to celebrate it. So, I'm basically relaxing and occasionally playing magic on apprentice or with my brother.
