Full Planeshift Spoiler!!!

Ransac

CPA Trash Man
I'm browsing through this spoiler and if this spoiler is factual, then I know of ONE card that will need clarifying.

Goblin Game
5RR
Sorcery
Each player hides at least one object, then all players reveal them simultaneously. Each player loses life equal to the number of objects he/she revealed. The player who revealed the fewest objects loses half his/her life, rounded up. If two or more players are tied or lowest, each loses half his/her life, rounded up.

Object?

Ransac, cpa trash man

I had the same impression regarding Goblin Game. I can only conclude that each player will use tokens, coins, bits of paper, etc., to resolve this spell. Sounds like a real pain, kinda like Chaos Moon from Ice Age.

As for the rest of the spoiler, I'm kinda unimpressed. A few cards look interesting, but Doomsday Specter looks like the best card to me. I almost get the impression that instead of doing a new release of Unglued, they're putting a few strictly-casual cards in each new set.

And, good God, are these cards expensive to cast! Even in limited, I can't get excited about cards that require 3 colors AND a boatload of colorless mana just to get the full effect.

Oh, well. Maybe at least some of these things are fake. We'll just have to wait and see.

I really like Dralnu's Crusade. It's not the best card, but I can already imagine using that with Goblin King, Zombie Master, Lord of the Dead, and Deadapult in a themedeck. A horde of regenerating, mountainwalking, swampwalking, saccing for damage and returning, +2/+2 goblin zombies would be amazing. Besides, how often do you get to win with zombie goblins?

I don't see the point of Goblin Game though. It's far to expensive to cast and is going to need quite a few clarifications.

[me]realizes he waited too long to post the rest...[/me] Damn you midterms! Curse you damned dirty midterm exams!!!!

All the time I spend leaking some here and there...and I'm too late to finish it...(sigh)

If you must know, yes, that is the correct spoiler. Goblin Game baffled me too at first, but I figured it out eventually.

And we have good old Mr. Pestilence, the same old fellow who says every new set is 'eh'. No set would be real if he didn't say that. ;)

As always, I'd say I like the new set a great deal. Gating is uber-cool, and black finally gets its own true Lord (go Dralnu!)

For once, every color gets something in the set.

W/G gets... a whole bunch of new fat...albeit maybe still not on the same level as R/G, but they now have an exclusive Tutor (that'd be Eladamri's Call for the lazy)

U/B gets...heck, do I even have to say what they get. More hilariously powerful bounce effects; fairly fast creatures for once... let's just keep going.

R/B gets... Zombie Goblins! The theme of R/B in this set seems to be screaming 'theme decks...THEME decks...' While I still don't follow how on earth they came up with a name like Deadapult, I'm not exactly complaining either... Mogg Sentry is actually a slightly serious one drop for this kind of deck for once, as is Maggot Carrier (hey, it's a Zombie, same reason small elves are good)

G/R gets... um, whee! Some new beatdown creatures and such. Some better Kavus than we saw last time as well. Hull Breach is sideboard-ariffic.

W/U gets... well, I didn't look at it. I hate the whole color combination. Sorry.

I have to give the spoiler a more in-depth try now, so I'll just stop here. I actually haven't read it even though I've had it for a while (midterms must be destroyed... )

Sorry to have outrun you, Emperor...
I got home from school, went to IRC to see whats up, and in the title it had a link to the spoiler. So I went, looked, then came back here and posted it. By the way, I feel, your pain, I got exams too. Hell, I have a monologue presentation due tommorow in Drama, thats worth 10% final. Whatever you do, don't get monologues from Devil's Advocate, thats what I did, and its d@mn hard. I shudder at the thought of presentiting this in front of the whole class...

...I would like Istanbul to explain something to me:

A card from Planeshift:
___
Orim's Chant (W)
Instant
Kicker: (W)
Target player can't play spells this turn.
If you paid the kicker cost, creatures can´t attack this turn.
___

Isn't this card great, or what? I'm going back to playing White now...I'm crazy about this thing. Well, Istanbul, remember what you said about Postpone? What do you think of Orim's Chant? ;)

Rushing River is a card that captures my mind right now. It could even be used in Dark Skies or whatever, it's splashible, playable...and very flexible. It's a common too...

Is it just me, or is Sunken Hope a "bad" version of Umbilicus? Wheather it is or not, I find it very playable...especially with the new card: Warped Devotion. I sense a lock deck of some type here...Highway Robber, CIP Kicker creatures, Warped Devotion...

I can see Noxious Vapors being played, unless the environment really starts getting at 3 colors...playing Noxious Vapors with a Ritual on a first turn is really mind shattering...given the right adjustments.

Urza´s Guilt sounds very interesting to me at the momment. I have a deck that draws a lot of cards for the intent of discarding them...this is perfect.

Well...I think Planeshift is really playable. All those "gating" creatures are mostly ALL playable...some cards come to pure disappointment though, like the new Ertai, Ertai's Trickery, and some other ones...but over all, Planeshift is overtly promising.

Blah. I'm not altogether impressed. There's the occassional nice card, like Shivan Wurm and the new hippo. But mostly a boring set. Should be fun in limited, though. Lots of tricks. The prerelease should be interesting, if I get to go.

Orim's Chant W
Instant
Kicker: W
Target player can't play spells this turn.
If you paid the kicker cost, creatures can't attack this turn.

Abeyance now SUCKS. Good LORD. Why doesn't it just say 'WW: Time Walk'?!

-

Dralnu's Pet 1UU
Creature - Shapeshifter
Kicker: 2B, discard a creature card
If you paid the kicker cost, Dralnu's Pet has flying and comes into play with X +1/+1 counters, where X is the discarded creature's converted mana cost.
2/2

Does anybody else realize how FAT this thing can be? Eh, I can't cast this Avatar, guess I'll discard him...oh, look...

-

Shifting Sky 2U
Enchantment
As Shifting Sky comes into play, choose a color.
All non-land permanents are the chosen color.

One Story Circle/Perish/Wash Out later...

-

Diabolic Intent 1B
Sorcery
As an additional cost to playing Diabolic Intent, sacrifice a creature.
Search through your library for a card and put it into your hand. Then shuffle your library.

What can I say? Demonic Tutor is reprinted, with a decidedly minor drawback. Me LIKEY.

-

Phyrexian Scuta 3B
Creature - Zombie
Kicker: Pay 3 life
If you paid the kicker cost, Phyrexian Scuta comes into play with two +1/+1 counters on it.
3/3

Daaaamn. 3/3 for 3B is nice. 5/5 for 3B and 3 life is *insane*.

-

Sinister Strength 1B
Enchant Creature
Enchanted creature gets +3/+1 and is black.

So, let me get this straight. Unholy Strength was B for +2/+1. For an extra colorless, I get +1/+0 and an immunity to most black removal? Dear gods...I can't attend the prerelease, but for those of you that can: DRAFT THIS.

-

Slay 2B
Instant
Destroy target green creature. It can't be regenerated.
Draw a card.

All I know is, when I go to my local T2 tournaments, I see a metric buttload of green...this should be rather nice in this environment. If only it could kill Blastie...

-

Flametongue Kavu 3R
Creature - Kavu
When Flametongue Kavu comes into play, it deals 4 damage to target creature.
4/2

Nice! A nice, strong creature, that pushes a potential blocker out of the way. Draft these, too.

-

Keldon Mantle 1R
Enchant Creature
B: Regenerate enchanted creature.
R: +1/+0 until end of turn.
G: Enchanted creature gains trample until end of turn.

WOW! A swiss-army knife if ever there was one! Watch out for any creature enchanted with this...

-

Steel Leaf Paladin 4GW
Creature - Knight
First Strike
When Steel Leaf Paladin comes into play, return target green or white creature you control to its owner's hand.
4/4

Wow again! A 4/4 first strike can all but control the board as far as combat goes. Watch for this guy to be nasty in draft, especially if someone gets an Armadillo Cloak on him!

-

Terminate RB
Instant
Destroy target creature. It can't be regenerated.

A no-brainer. Draft these, or wish you had.

-

Well, that's about it. Thoughts?

Comparing Orim's Chant with Abeyance:

The Chant doesn't replace itself. Not much of a problem when coupled with blue card-drawing. It doesn't prevent Rebels from searching, but that's a GOOD thing if you're playing Rebels. It prevents all spells from being played, so no enchantments, artifacts or creatures will get put down. PLUS, it has a built in Fog. All for the price of W (WW with kicker).

Verdict: Advantage goes to Orim's Chant.

Comparing Orim's Chant with Time Walk:

No contest. Time Walk prevents your opponent from drawing a card, playing lands, and using abilities of permanents already on the table.

Verdict: Advantage to Time Walk, but in T2, Orim's Chant will do SPLENDIDLY.

No doubt about it. As expected, White once more walks away with best card honors. Defnitely the defining card of the set. Almost too good to be true. I would have expected this card to cost UW.

Gotta get me 4.

...haw you feel Purple Girl...:)

I don't even play White, and I'm getting 4 of Orim's Chant to START playing White...

I agree with every word Purple Girl said...

Between you and me, I think Orim's Chant will even be played in non-T2 decks...that's what I think. It sure isn't a Time Walk, but it sure does "skip" an opponent's turn. :)

Remeber that Abeyance prevented abilities as well.

Before the "mana-source" ruling, you couldn't even tap your lands after an Abeyance resolved; so it really was a Time Walk, and a cantrip at that!

Pre-errata Waylay was a joke by comparison...

On-topic:

This spoiler conflicts in places with the other spoiler release a couple of days previous. Sea Snidd, Rushing River, and Cloud Cover all have totally different texts.

I wonder when we'll learn which is true?
