Forbidian

This is my newest deck that I've been working on. It's pretty good but I want to make it more consistent.

4x Forbid
4x Ophidian
2x Ertai, Wizard Adept
3x Masticore (main kill condition, great with Disk and kills blockers)
1x Morphling (all I have right now, it's not an easier card to get)
1x Rainbow Efreet (I removed two others and this one's still here)
4x Counterspell
4x Force of Will
2x Rewind
2x Arcane Denial
4x Boomerang
2x Arcane Laboratory (for Ertai mainly, anti-combo too)
4x Nevinyrral's Disk
1x Powder Keg
3x Thawing Glaciers (I still need one more)
19x Island

I'd say you need more card drawing in here besides the 'Phids, esp. with 3 Masticore and 4 Force of Will. I'd probably drop the Rewinds, and maybe 1 Disk and 1 Masticore for dedicated card drawing.

Yeah, I can see where some card drawing would be useful. I'm not sure what to use though. Maybe more Arcane Denials if nothing else...

Although with Thawing Glaciers out, card drawing isn't really even neccessary. I throw islands on the table all while drawing everything but islands. It's beautiful. That's why I want another Thawing Glaciers...

I'm hesitant to remove a Masticore when I'm also going to try to get rid of that last Efreet. I'd only have 2 Masticores and 1 Morphling as my kill creatures, and I don't know if that's enough. If someone who's played this type of deck more knows it is, then tell me. I'm just not sure what works is all...

Anyway, what card drawing do you recommend?

I like the Efreet b/c of how it combos with the Disk, but I see what you are saying.

What format is this for? (Type 1, 1v1 casual, multi-player, etc.)

Let's break it down

Aggro 5
3 Masticore (card hungry)
1 Morphling
1 Efreet

Counter 18
4 Forbid (card hungry)
4 Counterspell
4 FoW (card hungry)
2 Ertai
2 Rewind
2 Arcane Denial (card draw, but card disadvantage as well)

Removal 10
4 Disk
3 Masticore
2 Boomerang
1 Keg

Misc 6
4 Phids
2 Arcane Lab

Land 22
19 Island
3 Glaciers

Its just my opinion, but I think you are trying to do too many things in here. The Phids seem to go somewhat in a different direction than the rest of the deck. The Ertai/Lab lock is strong, but being that both are run in such low quantities how reliable is it? Beyond that, its hard to run higher qtys of each b/c the Lab is very specialized and Ertai is very difficult to protect. You've also got a heluva lot of mass removal - and keep in mind that the Disk wipes out your key components (minus 'Core). I'd either trim the permanents, or trim the destruction.

For card drawing, the Kings are...
Fact or Fiction
Accumulated Knowledge
Impulse (which I don't think I'd necessarily recommend here)
Merchant Scroll (which can allow you to silver-bullet some instants - currently the deck isn't built for them)

Interesting choices
Meditate (which would work very well with the Ertai/Lab soft-lock)
Whispers of the Muse
Deep Analysis

An interesting alternative to the Efreet is Fairie Conclave as well - since it too can get around the Disk.

Hope this helps

And I too am a huge Glaciers fan.

I mainly play 1v1 casual, and use sets Prophecy and earlier...

I've been considering taking out the Ertai/Lab lock because I've only got two of each anyway, but they tend to be pretty strong. Still, I can see how they might be inefficient...

I've never had problems with Forbid being card-hungry, just because I can draw enough cards that I only occasionaly use it with buyback. Masticore and Force of Will are harder to get aroung though...

My Accumulated Knowledges are in a different deck right now, but I could easily get more. I'm used to using them with Intuition though. I'm going to test them at least...

Whispers might be too expensive. Aren't Thieving Magpie or Ophidian better in this deck? I don't know if I can get them anyway...

Wow, I hadn't thought about Meditate in this deck. I don't know if I can get that one very easily either, but it sounds like it would be a great idea...

Thanks.

I'd go 1 or 2 more rewind over forbids...

Quash would be a great spell to have, as it gets rid of four(at the most) of their cards, to your one...

running 3 or 4 gets rid of 12-16 cards minimum...

as for drawing - I'd run prosperity...

it allows you to draw, and your opponent...

leaving 4 mana open for you - you can easily get a rewind, that way if they try to play a spell you can counter it and untap, and be able to counter again...

and it draws "X" - never a bad thing...

I haven't gotten to mess around with this deck lately. I'm toying with the idea of keeping it Type 1.5 legal, even though I haven't played Type 1.5 since Nemesis came out, or thereabouts...

I let a friend borrow it in a tournament I was in. He lost first round. I don't know why he chose to borrow a deck that was kind of hard to play. I played Academy and was exposed to game after game with no rest, until I snapped in the semifinal round and made a mistake that eliminated me. The two decks in the final round were both burn decks and neither one was as good as mine, from what I saw...

Well, so far not much has changed with this deck though. But there is one thing...

-1 Rainbow Efreet
+1 Thawing Glaciers

Don't forget some of the more affordable, more unusual counterspells out there.

Dissipate (1UU)
Instant
Counter target spell. Remove it from the game.

Mirage uncommon. And no, mine are NOT for trade. :D

Heh, thanks but I DO have my own Dissipates. I've never actually used them though. It doesn't seem worth it in this sort of deck though...
