After i quit playing magic for some time i'm going to start playing it again, when i stopped the 4th edition was just being released, so i realy lost track of the expansions & cards. What are some descent expansion packs? i know i liked blue, green and red decks, are these still good or does anyone uses multicolor decks? Can anyone also give me some color combination ideas for decks?

Thanks

Well, the easy answer is that any expansion set is good right now, especially if you don't have any recent cards to begin with. Check the Deck forum for deck ideas that people have been working on.

Do your prospective opponents usually play Type 2 decks? Then I'd say don't waste your money on the stuff from Urza's block, since it'll be rotating out in a couple months, and instead focus on Mercadian Masques, and the new set, Invasion, coming to a store near you in October.

OTOH, if format doesn't matter and you'd like to limit your spending a bit, Urza's or Tempest blocks would be perfect for you, since those sets all had some really powerful cards in them, Urza's maybe a little too powerful, if you ask me. Alliances was great too, though I doubt you'll find very much of it around.

Not to steal Spiderman's idea, but there's a thread in the Issues Forum where we talked quite a bit about the different expansion sets, and it was a voting topic in case you're interested. Maybe by reviewing those you might get some ideas about the relative strengths of the sets, and base your decisions on that.

Welcome back to the game! :D

Most of the time i don't play type 2, i think it is way too expensive to follow. So most of the time type 1. I think i have a couple of tempest cards already... not many, but a begin. So should i invest in Mercedian Masques and Tempest mainly?

And what is the diffrence between 4th and 6th edition? are there many new cards and are there cards that are removed?

And how are Prophecy and Nemesis? Should i also invest in 6th edition cards? And what can i do with my old 4th edition cards? Have they increased in value(should i sell them?)?

Should i get Urza's too?

What is the power of the colors, did they change or are they still the same ? and what are good expansions for specified colors (like green->Urza's Legacy)?

Thanks!

There are cards were dropped from 4th and new cards added.
I wouldn't bother buying 6th since most are reprints. There are some portal cards that are now in 6th. I probably wouldn't bother with Masques since it is a lot slower than most of the older sets. Some of the older 4th edition cards are worth more. You can usually trade a Serra or Sengir for a cheap rare but on the whole the 4th edition cards aren't worth much. Just some thoughts have fun!!!

Well, 6th has cards from Mirage, Visions, and Weatherlight (maybe Alliances and Homelands? or is that 5th?) so it MIGHT be worthwhile to pick up some if you don't have any from those sets. If you REALLY want to spend some time find some set lists and see what cards interest you and see if you can grab them from somewhere.

I really do love MBC, but if your going to playing with power sets like US block and Tempest block, I wouldnt waste your money. All the cards from MM block (PY being my fav) are good, interesting cards, but im afraid they will be no competeition to some of the older more powerful sets. I think INVASION will be the same. My advice? Stick to MBC and when INVASION comes out play type II. It is cheaper than what is use to be. When I buy a pack (of any set from MM block) I find that 75% of the cards I would enjoy using. And even the singles dont cost very much.

Hope that helps!
