Let's remember, buyback is just a restrictive version of kicker that only does one thing instead of millions of different things.

Can you explain yourself a bit better? To me, buyback you get the whole spell back (in effect an infinite number of copies of the spell), while kicker gives you just an added bonus (but still just can have 4 copies of the spell). That's a pretty big difference to me...

Yes, they are totally different. Buyback let you reuse a single effect, whereas Kicker is about choosing one of two effects.
