Anyone see this bad boy yet? My wife and I and a couple of friends saw it and I thought it was... "enh". Probably should have been a video rental. Haley Joel Osment was very good, but why did Jude Law get "co-star" billing? And the plot itself was "enh". And man, was it looooong.

But I heard it was "enh" from most people, like Spidey said, though I heard the acting was great. And I also heard many people said it was very long too. Strangely, whenever I hear someone talk about it, they say basically what Spidey just said. I think the ads made it out to be spectacular, so the people who saw it expected something better.

I didn't even think the ads made it spectacular. But my wife and at least one of our friends wanted to see it so we did...

They were trying to be profound, but there wasnt anything there.

They should have just ended it with a fade from the kid praying at the fairy under the Ferris Wheel.

The first half was good.

It was an excellent movie, in terms of pure "movie"-ness. Unfortunately, I think Kubrick and Spielberg have totally conflicting views about the world as we know it, and as a result, it lost a lot. Kubrick has an untrusting view of technology, an icy cold intellectual style, and a sort of fear of the "puppet master," the being that creates and controls.

Spielberg thinks technology is great. He has a warm 'n' fuzzy stylization, and he can't BEAR to show a puppet master as evil (he is one). Thus, I ended up feeling like a lot of scenes were half-way between the two viewpoints, and lost some focus. The most notable was the sequence where Jude Law first makes his appearance (his whole role felt like a cameo). His last scene was the same way.

Oh, well. It was a good try. My girlfriend loved it, but being the cimematical nutcase that I am, I've been overanalyzing it, and I don't think it was all that great anymore.

(Btw, was it just me, or did the last part of the movie feel rather sappy? I can't help but feel like stopping the movie at the end of the second part would have been more interesting...)

Though I wished for a happy ending :), it probably could have stopped before the "2000 years later" part.

It definitly wasn't what I expected but I found that it was a very good movie. Not the kind I would go see more than once but very good nevertheless.

There are so many aspects of the story behind it and all fall into place effortlessly.

As a video rental it would probably suck mighty rocks.

The movie was long, but the story could not have been told without such a length, and I didnt see time pass.

I am also happy that it is a movie without "open ending".

Some scenes could have been better, but overall, it was well worth the money.

If you're looking for action, dont go. If you're looking for a nice story, go ahead and see it.

There's a review of it at www.x-entertainment.com if anyone's interested.

Kubrick was odd, and some of his movies I like, but others I'm afraid of. Spielburg without a doubt hasn't the same feeling that Kubrick had in his movies: it's more light-hearted.

I might see the movie at some point, but not in the theaters-- the last thing I've seen is Shrek, and the next thing is undeterminate... possibly Scary Movie 2.

I saw this quote on the commercials:

"His love was real. But he was not."

And immediately decided not to see it.
