I think those are good ideas. Someone will need to keep on top of the New Player's Guide as new pre-cons come out though. And I still have your cards as prizes for Writing contests; I never found enough time to start them up myself :(

They're mostly for beginning heros; you can check the Announcements in the forums but... Heros can Guard at the city gates for xp (and money?) Dwarves and Gnomes can Build at the Palace (up to level 5) Elves can Entertain at the Inn/Tavern. Heros can specify a number of turns to rest in...

In that case, I'd probably just go to Fileplanet and search for the updates. They seem to do them either from the previous version to the current or from scratch to the current, so you can slowly download each little one from scratch until you catch up :)
