Shōchō Rebellion [Pauper EDH]

The Tentacled One
I was challenged to build a Rebels deck in Pauper EDH. This is my take. Five common rebels can initiate rebel search-chains, acting as a toolbox. Among the searchable cards are Children of Korlis and Task Force, both of which have some gamebreaking combo potential with my commander, Vizkopa Guildmage.

This deck got its first game on Wednesday night. I kept drawing lands and non-creature spells, but had practically no board state. My opponents focused each other that I was able to just barely hold on for long enough to finally draw Ramosian Liuetenant before it was too late. Because of how far behind I was, searched out Children of Korlis first chance I got. The opponent who ultimately came out on top had a legion of flying angels, and searching up blocker this late was looking to be untenable. I tried to shut down his lethal attack by using Awe Strike on his commander (using Vizkopa Guildmage to drain him back), but he had a pump spell that boosted the rest of his team enough for that to be lethal, so I also cast Riot Control. Having already used Darkness, Awe Strike, and Riot Control, I was out of options and knew I was dead if he could hit me for lethal in a single attack. I had three different spells in my hand to bring back Children of Korlis, but they were no good to me if I was struck down in one combat. Fortunately, he couldn't quite get there, and brought me down from 30 life to 10. I used Vizkopa Guildmage and Children of Korlis to kill him.

Totally forgot to post about my games on the 24th. Well, I kept an opening hand that seemed fine. Turn 2 Angelic Renewal into turn 3 Ramosian Lieutenant had me feeling pretty good about this game. Eric, now piloting his Blaze Commander deck (another of his token spamfests), used a targeted burn spell on my creature, forcing me to use Angelic Renewal to save it. Then another player used a burn spell on it too, so I used it to fetch Amrou Scout. Then Eric did 1 damage to all opposing creatures, wiping my board of two 1-toughness creatures. Then more direct damage took out two more of my creatures, and another burn spell took out Vizkopa Guildmage. I'd lost something like eight or nine creatures to direct damage spells and triggers in total, all before anyone attacked me in combat. Tried to find some out, but I'd been too weakened. I even used Soul Link on an opponent's 7/7 creature, but he chose not to attack with it (a mistake) a couple of turns in a row. Eric ran over everyone with tokens again. The new guys would maybe have started to learn their lesson about his decks if he'd stuck around, but he hadn't eaten dinner, so that was his last game for the night.
