why no avatars

Bandwidth concerns.

The CPA is a not-for-profit site that's run out of a guy who doesn't play magic anymore's pocket. He isn't shelling out extra dough for the pages to load longer and people to flash images at other people.

I say it keeps things nice and tasteful.

Avatars? Please, you could just go clubbing.

Nothing wrong with avatars, they don't detract from class, or whatever it is you're insinuating. I moderate forums with Avatars, and have posted at sites with and without.

There's truly no difference.

Avatars are better than no avatars, for coolness, but it's content that really matters.

In that regard, CPA is tops already, so why stretch the budget?

I asked the same thing when I was new here. Before I did, I think Nightstalkers posted the question. Before them, I dunno. But, the question does have a long history.

Things would look cooler with them, but if you look at it from Ed Sullivan's point of view (I think he's the guy in charge...if not, the real dude in charge is probably gonna drop a piano on my head, and Ed will just get a chuckle), then ya gotta understand that even such small images do mean more bandwidth. This place is cool enough without the avatars.

*Mad Dog drops a piano on Sefro's head*
*Junkyard laughs at Sefro*
*Sefro drops a piano on Junkyard's head*
*Mad Dog shoots both Sefro and Junkyard with paintballs*

Avatars increase load time like crazy. Trust me, I know this for a fact. I'd rather have prompt load times and read the content than look at the occasional pretty picture.

You mean its not worth the time to load those little 70x70 pixel pictures of porn star body parts, even when they are in swimsuits???

Joking...I've seen a lot of that sort of stuff at other sites. Although it is cool when folks make some creative avatars.

I personally think avatars are just silly. Even if they weren't a bandwith issue, I'd be against them.

And it's Mike, AKA Ed Sullivan, who runs this joint.
