What should I use to pump up a new deck?

I've just gotten back into magic and (I might be going about this the wrong way) decided that the best way to build a deck without spending too much money would be to buy a pre-constructed deck and then buy or use some of my old singles to make it a little meaner. I dropped-out around Urza's Saga so I feel left behind in regards to what to use. Hell (oops, I said hell huh, huh) I sucked even when I did play. But even Scrubs can enjoy a can of whoop a** once and awhile. I appreciate the help, and if my thinly veiled references to profanity offend, I'll take the spanking and I'll never, ever do that again : )

Qelcome. (No it's not a typo)

You'll be able to get very good deck advice by going to the Casual Decks/Variants/Etc. forum and posting whatever deck you want help on. The only detail is that you'll probably have to mention which format (if any) you intend to play.

About the preconstructed deck idea...
I remember an article in Scrye (I think) about two years ago telling how to make a formidable deck for cheap. It involved buying a preconstructed deck as well, and a couple of singles to go along with it.
So something like that might very well work.

Unfortunately a whole lot has happened in magic since Urza's Saga, so if you're trying to play competitively you've got a lot of work to do...
This leaves you two good options.

1) Study the sets in the Invasion block (Invasion, Planeshift, and Apocalypse) and 7th Edition (you even missed 6th Edition! ) until October, when Odyssey comes out and the Mercadian Masques block (which came after Urza's Saga) rotates out of Type II. At that point, you'll be in approximately the same boat as everyone else, so you should have the best chance of recovering.

2) Stop caring! I advocate this option. :)

Good luck!

Of course, that's two words, which shows you what an idiot fuzzy is.

Welcome!

Okay, enough bickering. Here's your room key, strategically located next to the plane_arium. Also, here's your complimentary can of used Scope, your invitation to eat a fruit, and your key to the super secret administrative spa, where the midget porn is hidden underneath the drain in the jacuzzi.

Enjoy!
