Hi/,I'm a Magic player (among other things) from Rochester, NY, USA. I discovered this forum via one of the Wikipedia articles related to the game.
Why I like playing casual Magic:
Simply a great concept, as we all know - a 13-year longevity is good evidence of that.
Specifically, the ability the designers have had to balance 5 wildly divergent colors, and more recently 10 guilds, is amazing. (What Blizzard did the 3 races in Starcraft is another example of this.)
Designing decks and tweaking them is an interesting challenge.
I like building oversized decks with a mix of cards from different sets/blocks.
I spend enough money on cards as is...
Buildign tournament-quality decks, I'd probably have to get into expensive rares and the like, and update for Standard-legal purposes every few blocks.
I can play the game in places where I go anyway; that's nice. (Most of my playing lately has been during lunch breaks, and I occasionally play 2 of my own decks for a 'solitaire' game.)
