I had to push this part into its own post since I was running out of room again. It doesn't belong here anyway, heh.

Setup.

We each determine our starting threat level. It's the sum of the numbers located in the top left corner on each hero card. I already took care of this but check if you'd like to see. For example, Aragorn has 12, Theodred 8, and Gloin 9 for a total threat of 29. When a player's threat reaches 50, he is eliminated from the game.

Each player draws their initial hand of 6 with an optional mulligan.

Setup the quest cards. The top one reads:
Flies and Spiders 1A
You are traveling through Mirkwood forest, carrying an urgent message from King Thanduil to the Lady Galadriel of Lorien. As you move along the dark trail, the spiders gather around you...
Setup: Search the encounter deck for 1 copy of the Forest Spider and 1 copy of the Old Forest Road, and add them to the staging area. Then Shuffle the encounter deck. (This has been done.)

Each player draws their initial hand of 6 with an optional mulligan.

Now for the first turn.

Phase 1: Resource

Each player draws a card and places one resource token on each of his heroes.

Phase 2: Planning

This is the only phase in which you can play allies or attachments. In turn order, each of us plays cards from our hand. Events are typically saved for later in the turn.

Note that the cost of each of the cards is located in the top left corner of each card.
