Best way to explain what goes on around here is to tell you to look around. Here's the 5-minute "guided tour"...
The only thing that really links us around here is that we all like to play Magic. And by that, I mean that we all like to enjoy playing the game of Magic. And by that, I mean that we all are of the opinion (and we all have lots of opinions) that there are a lot of people out there playing Magic that aren't enjoying the game. And by that, I mean that they aren't winning...And by that, what I mean is that most people here don't care about winning as much as we care about playing (though we do like to win - don't get me wrong).
You will also find that different people hang out in different areas.
Decks - There is a reasonably active set of guys who like to talk about deck ideas. It is very rare that any of these decks are going to win any pro tours in the near future, but you can bet most of them are fun to play. And stories about great plays are always fun.
Rules - We have a few resident judges. I myself am a level 3 (though that unfortunately may have to lapse since it's hard to get to tournaments to judge where I live now
) and there are a few other guys who's rules knowledge is probably just as good as mine.
CPA Stuff - Sort of our version of the kinds of stuff WotC likes to put on their website. Polls and deck building, etc. Usually gets a lot of attention for new sets coming out here too.
New Members - Not exactly a lot of activity, but we lose a few people every once in a while to "life", so it's nice to see fresh faces. Welcome.
Classic Questions - If we didn't have this, you would be amazed how often the same questions would be asked in other places. We just like repeating ourselves. If we didn't have...nevermind.
Other Stuff -
"Current Events" is where political stuff happens. Every once in a while, something sparks and we talk about it. If you really want to get to know "who's who" around here, go read some of the back-log in this forum. Just keep in mind that this is the only place we are completely serious around here. As such, you have to remember that we all try to respect each other dispite differences of opinion.
"Off Topic" is a catch-all for anything that doesn't fit somewhere else. If you watch Survivor or The Amazing Race, for example, we would love for you to chime in. There are also a couple of "game threads" that have been going on for a very long time.
Which brings us to "Games run by CPA Members" - Currently, we have a Beyond Balderdash game going on (feel free to jump in at the start of any question) and a game of Werewolf going. In addition, there are at least 2 RPGs going on and a few games of Magic.
Best way to figure it all out is just to check out anything that you think you are interested in. If you have any questions, start up a new thread and ask...just be ready for an onslaught of responses.
