    Worldfire unbanned in EDH!

That's a good breakdown. There is a lot going on here. The most obvious is that a lot of the designed for Commander cards or FIRE legends are way too pushed. Look at the Commanders from Eldraine, which you have mentioned. Stuff like Partners weren't much better either. WotC was good with the...

Tribal Update Report: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms

The Goblins in the set are surprisingly good, not even counting something like Den of the Bugbear. Love it. Really appreciate all the work you put in for these things; that's a lot of words!

    Worldfire unbanned in EDH!

I think I'm OK with Golos being banned, feels a lot like Rofellos was as a commander. I think it just does too much for it's cost. And it really doesn't have a downside or way to combat it other non-basic hate. Glad Worldfire is unbanned. Would be nice if this was the start of pruning the chaff...

How much responsibility do casual deckbuilders have to be able to close out games?

You opponents sound angry they lost and are trying to rationalize it and offload the responsibility on you. The criticism of "why didn't you just win earlier also we are going to gang up on you so you have to use your resources to prevent yourself from dying instead of winning: you built your...

The Hall of Illuminating Magic Decks

The DD deck is OK, in Premodern that is, but the deck has a hard time beating any red deck because of burn spells and Mogg Fanatic and loses to GY hate e.g. Tormod's Crypt.

The Comboist Manifesto: Looking Back at Fame and Shame [Article]

Snowfall is such a "bait and switch". It reads like it's High Tide but then just slaps you in the face when you get to the last sentence. Hall of Mists is so bad too. I wouldn't even know what to pick. I totally spaced out on Solemnity and counter shenanigans. Something to keep in mind when...

The Comboist Manifesto: Looking Back at Fame and Shame [Article]

Yeah, at some point we're just splitting hairs. For a lot of these cards you have to construct a Rube Goldberg machine to make the cards even work at all. That's a good point. I totally forgot how cool Mistform Ultimus was back in the day. Now there are just so many Changelings that do things...

The Comboist Manifesto: Looking Back at Fame and Shame [Article]

Yeah, there needs to be a name for that phenomenon like "The Dragon Effect" or something. Maybe they all blend together because nearly every set in recent memory has dragons in them? Even cards like Glorybringer which are format defining, powerful cards just get lost in the shuffle, so to speak...

The Comboist Manifesto: Looking Back at Fame and Shame [Article]

Hall of Fame: No mention of KILNMOUTH DRAGON is SHAMEFUL! I love that card so much and it offers so much more than any other card from Legions, solid stats and mana cost plus the Amplify ability makes it really sweet. Hall of Shame: Pyramids is pretty close to the worst card of all time but...

    Acererak, the Archlich

Here's something I didn't expect, a Vintage Aluren list with our favorite lich. This looks really neat. How many decades has it been since Aluren was even remotely playable in Vintage? A few, for sure.

Tribal Update Report: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms

I've been a little ambivalent on this set as a whole but it's way cooler than I expected. The flavor keyword stuff is a bit overdone but kinda cool. I like the Dungeon stuff. That's really cool especially since it enabled the Aluren + Lich guy dude kill. Neat. All the dragons are a big...

Commander Ban List update for July 12th, 2021

I was going to make a Pirate deck with this guy in it so I'm glad I never got around to doing that. I wasn't even going to do anything broken with it either: it's just a good pirate! I think it's probably a good ban since it seems like one of the hardest cards to come back from. Mind Twisting...

    Sythis, Harvest's Hand

This card is sweet. I'd play it over the other Bant enchantment-matters Commanders. Not getting blue is fine since this lady is one heck of a draw engine for only two mana and those other Commanders aren't really enchantress effects. Two is about as cheap as it gets. I like it quite a bit.

    Limited Discussion

I like Limited tho I'm pretty bored of the signpost uncommon stuff they've been doing for awhile. Very derivative. Favorite format was probably CHK block.

Sporogenesis makes everything a fungus! He spiked when Slimefoot was printed in Dominaria. He is a free sac outlet for saprolings and the life gain is good with some of the BG cards from Strixhaven. So I think he is good but only in saproling token decks.

    Breaking Skullclamp in Legacy

Phew! What a preview season. That was a close one. I thought it was going to start out as Squirrel Horizons. ...but they decided to save some interesting cards for last. Thought Monitor is just awesome. Another good flyer to put equipment or counters on. Nettlecyst is a mostly better...

ChannelFireball's Top 100 Magic Cards of All Time

That's a really good way to put it. That illustrates how difficult this endeavor is. Time Vault is a good example of a card that went from broken to useless and then back again with errata so that certainly impacted it's playability. I think we can have a much better view now of what was...

ChannelFireball's Top 100 Magic Cards of All Time

I never noticed that. There is a lot of bias towards those eras and as you already mentioned Vintage as well. Obviously I think it's good to consider all eras as about as "equally" as you can but that's a pretty big ask since any metrics you use are going to be subjective, for the most part. My...

Link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL04lbfeNAaS96Tj8wZ8LHy_VRHZbQ5Ugl This is an older video series, pre-F.I.R.E. design philosophy, that ranked all the cards in Magic. No sideboard cards (Leyline of the Void, elemental blasts, Null Rod, Pithing Needle, etc. don't count...
