    Warhammer Quest: The Sylvan Epic

Haven't been home much this week. But let's get this moving anyway without my notes! You proceed through the door into the lower level of a pit. As the last of the party arrives, a portcullis slams shut behind you and grotesque, croaking laughter echoes from above. Plaguebearers, twisted...

Return to Ravnica Event Decks: Spidey (Wrack and Rage) vs Oversoul (Creep and Conquer)

UUD, Forest, Drudge Beetle, done. Spidey: 20 Hand: 6 Library: 52 Battlefield: (T) Mt (S) Rakdos Crackler (2/2 from ctr; Unleash (I may have this creature ETB with a +1/+1 ctr on it. It can't block as long as it has a +1/+1 ctr on it)) *1 +1/+1 ctr* Graveyard: Exile...

    Magic Memories: Rootwater Matriarch

Ramses Overdark, huh? Got to show people that you're an OG Commander player! I can see why Rootwater Matriarch would be iffy there, though. Your commander is killing enchanted creatures already, so why bother stealing them? Could fall back on which of the two is more practical at the time, of...

    The Notorious M.R.B. [EDH]

I think that in terms of technical viability, all-in combo is not worse for Commander than it is for any other multiplayer format. Multiplayer is inherently more difficult because more players means more hands that might have cards to disrupt your combo, and once you're outed as attempting to...

Feedback Thread: Bringing Shahrazad to Modern

Another fascinating deck. These wild concepts continue to be impressive in their innovation and bizarre goals. On the topic of Shahrazad, I'm always inclined to note some of the odd and, in my view, regrettable history surrounding the card... Shahrazad was included on the original pre-format...

    Magic Memories: Lim-Dûl's Vault

Lim-Dûl's Vault has been one of my favorite cards for a long, long time. WotC, in tinkering with the color pie and trying to establish the flavor and function of the two-color pairings, stuck themselves in a bit of a corner with blue/black. Mark Rosewater is aware of this and has commented on it...

    Magic Memories: Lim-Dûl's Vault

Mirage Block introduced a four-card cycle of "topdeck tutors" (and left everyone wondering where the red one was). The blue one and the black one are both banned in Legacy, the white was used to be banned but was eventually set free, and the green one was never banned but is no slouch. They set...

Return to Ravnica Event Decks: Spidey (Wrack and Rage) vs Oversoul (Creep and Conquer)

Tails, no mulligan, and let's just lead off with this... Swamp, Slitherhead, done. Spidey: 20 Hand: ? Library: ?? Battlefield: Graveyard: Exile: ======================================================================================= Oversoul: 20 Hand: 5 Library: 53 Battlefield: (T) Swamp...

    Potential New Format

They did, but you didn't care. :P I'm assume that I'm partial to the old frame due to nostalgia, but I actually think that perhaps the best frame they did was the "timeshifted" frame for Planar Chaos, seen on the cards that were color-swapped reprints of old cards.

    Magic Memories: Rootwater Matriarch

I did not have a dedicated deck for it, but I used that exact combo. Fire Covenant is a very alluring card for casual players (despite never being nominated for the Casual Card Hall of Fame). Of course, Rootwater Matriarch and Binding Agony do not work very well together. But if the goal is...

    Warhammer Quest: The Sylvan Epic

Oops! I will get to this later today. So Ty takes the Fell Blade and Carrow takes the Soul Blade. If no one else wants to claim one, I'll just arbitrarily assign Tomas the Chaos Demon Sword and Revaethan the other two...

    The Notorious M.R.B. [EDH]

My recent revisions to Gitrog County Municipal Lake Dredge Appraisal, Hulking the deck out, have left me thinking that it's time to focus on another Commander deck. I'm not taking GCMLDA apart yet (especially now that I've just made up an abbreviation for it), but I think I've reached a kind of...

    [Grixis Commander] Combo-animator

Wow, this one is cheesy, which of course means I like it. Dream Halls is a pet card of mine, although I'm uncertain if it's a good fit here. I've played around with graveyard combos a lot and I have some old notes that might have something relevant to this sort of deck, but I'm drawing a blank...

    Magic Memories: Rootwater Matriarch

The competition for slots was fierce! I had a list of card written down, including a lot of cards that were ultimately cut, but sadly it did not survive. However, I might actually be misremembering and it's possible that Rootwater Matriarch did make it into early versions of Zur deck. It does...

    Magic Memories: Rootwater Matriarch

Probably the best use of Rootwater Matriarch is to spam auras and steal multiple creatures. With just one aura, you're doing a tenuous impression of Seasinger. But if you steal three things with three auras, Rootwater Matriarch has generated real value and the only response an opponent might...

    Magic Memories: Rootwater Matriarch

Like Scalpalexis, Rootwater Matriarch was reprinted in Tenth Edition, which in both cases I either didn't know or had forgotten until I started a thread about the card. Weird. What was going on with Tenth Edition anyway? I was a bit busy and poor at the time, but I always just thought of it as...

Magic 2013 Event Decks: Spidey (Sweet Revenge) vs Oversoul (Repeat Performance)

Based on the fist game, I thought that "Repeat Performance" stood a decent chance in the matchup, that it could have gone either way. But I had nothing that could come close to winning this one. Mostly drew lands and mana dorks. :/ "Sweet Revenge" is a neat deck, though.
