Like I said at the dojo, I'd like to live in an age of "pax magicanus"!

the roman peace; the magic peace.

seems there's not much to argue about.
except wanting "several hundred dollars" to have a banner at the dojo for a month, no reply from mtgnews, and "not interested" from brainburst...

that sucks.

but nothing...

ok. call me pessimistic.

Thank god. I was afraid we were going to lose this site after all the work put into it. It's nice to see that all the y2k bullsh!t never came to be.

on a happy note, I've found a place that may advertise us for $50.(cheaper than the others)

from yavipai open(the pics page)

http://209.207.230.11/Advertise.shtml

Information

Where will my banner be seen?

Your ad will be seen in on Yavapai Open. That includes over 5000 pages!
A few statistics if you will:

(From HitBox)
Average Monthly Page Views: 22,612
Average monthly Uniques: 7,677
Average time spent on site: 11-30 minutes.
(from banner rotator)
Average Daily exposures: 1,637

Average monthly transfer: 12GB

We host the internet's original Snippet(c) Contest, with thousands of worlwide participants.
We also have the Internet's FIRST complete NetRep archive.
Finally the internet's Original graphical MTG card database.

What kind of banner can I have?

The size of the banner must be no larger than 500 pixels wide and 50 pixels high.
Pornography and questionable banners will be rejected without further consideration.
You may use an animated banner, stored on our server or linked to yours.
If the banner is stored on our server, and is over 30KB, there is an additional $2 fee per month.
Yavapai Open/MTG Card Pics reserve the right to refuse any banner for any reason.

What does all this cost?

There are many sites that charge an arm and a leg for a little advertising, but not here.

1 Month : $25
3 Months: $50 (One month free!)

Monthly statistics are accessable at no extra cost.
Payments are due by the first of the month. Non-payment removals are on the 5th of every month.

and if you please, volenteer monetary amounts you could donate.
I'll chip in $5

I found another place we could advertise, possibly. ( my name is Jensen )
this is from my mailbox, but I added the url code.

Jensen,

http://ign.com is the largest interactive games and entertainment site
on
the web, reaching 12.4 % of all male teens on the web, and 4.7% of the
web
(2.8MM uniques). The audience is split equally between teens (12-17)
and
young adults (18-35). The site is composed of three main hubs (with more
in
the works)-- Games, Science Fiction and ForMen. There is literally
nowhere
else you can reach this size and concentration of young men.

Generally, our rates are $15-35 on a cost-per-thousand impression
basis,
depending on volume. We offer you a fully accountable and optimized buy,
with daily reporting available to view on-line through our service with
Net
Gravity.

Let me know the scope of what interests you, your timing and your
budget,
and I will return with a custom proposal of any size that is
appropriate!

Good job, Orgg! :D

I prefer the 1st option because of their previous connection to MTG, but I like IGN too, since they're associated with 1 of my favorite non-MTG websites, http://pcxl.ign.com/

Put me down for a $10.00 spot.

I liked the first option also.

the question is do we try for one or three months?

I vote for three, and the donations stand as this
* theorgg $5
TomB-$10

total: $15 out of $50

Ferret- you have done enough. the payments of the cpa shouldn't be your responsibility.

A little update on ign.com:
this was in my mailbox a few days later...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi,MTGNEWS.com is an affiliate of IGN.com, we handle the advertising forthem.
We also own The Vault... one of the largest RPG sites around.
Let me know your budget and timing & I will put together a custom proposal for you.
Thanks,
Melissa
Ign is definatly the way to go, if for no other reason but mtgnews if you can decipher their technical saying, it may be an excellent deal. Ed, can you translate the technical stuff into intelligent, simple words for us geeks who arn't experts with technology? I'm going to set up a vote for which site to attempt to advertise on after ed translates for us...
by the way,
here is a list of donators so far:
* theorgg $5
TomB-$10
Ed-$5-10
Umm... can someone tell me what "technical" terms you are referring to? Maybe I'm just used to reading them, that I don't even realize they're technical. :)
Actually, those aren't really technical terms. They're more ad terms. And I'm not really very experienced with anything in that industry. But I'm pretty sure cost-per-thousand impression is $15-$35 for 1000 views. Anyone else know anything?
Orgg, will you be our contact person on this, or will we need Mike's expertise as far as setting up the banner and all? How should we go about setting this up?
I was also wondering if there's a way to get some money off by offering to reciprocate with the banners. Maybe these sites wouldn't charge as much to run our banner if we agreed to run theirs. Could we do something like that with Chuck, and TMOB?
I'd like to issue a call to arms for all of us. We've seen firsthand how our membership soared as a result of the banner on MOTL, and we all know how important it is for us to have solid membership numbers. I know there's no guarantees as to just how many of the people who check out our site will stick around, but it seems to me that this is probably our best option right now. If we all chip in, say, $5.00, we can make this thing happen for all of us.
So everyone, please, see what you can do.
