Does anyone out there play 5C? I want to find out what other people think are good strategies. I'm thinking about a graveyard deck with the following being the engine:

1 Memory Jar
1 Windfall
1 Recurring Nightmare
1 Wheel of Fortune
4 Flux
4 Tolarian Winds
4 Winds of Change
4 Frantic Search
4 Hermit Druid
4 Avenging Druid
4 Scroll Rack
4 Fluctuator
4 Living Death
4 Victimize
and a bunch of heavy hitters and good 187s like
Dark Hatchling
Abyssal Horror
Crater Hellion
Avalanche Riders
Yaviamaya Granger
Wood Elf
Wall of Blossoms
Uktabi Orangutan
Monk Idealist
Radiant's Dragoons
Anarchist
Scrivener
plus a bunch of cycling dorks like
Sandbar Serpent
Disciple of Law
Disciple of Grace
Drifting Djinn
Pendrel Drake
Bloated Toad
Darkwatch Elves
and an alternate victory conditions of the black spell that allows you to remove X creatures from your graveyard to do X damage to a player and Cathodian+Blood Vassal+ Anarchist+Living Death.

remember, at least 18 cards in each color, and 250 cards minimum.

Thanks!

Erik

Though it has been ages since I built a 5 color deck, some of my tricks included:

Try to only use cards that have 1 of a specific color in the cc, or easily played ACC.

Any card that lets you fetch basic land.
Any card that lets you fetch target forest affects dual lands as well, as certain duals count as a Forest and a
____.

Quiron Elves
Mana Severance
Foresight
Jeweled Amulet

Buyback. Especially the blue ones.

The assorted guildmages.

Dual Lands, Pain Lands, multicolor lands, but that goes without saying...

Good graveyard recursion, as you may pitch an awful lot before you get mana to cast it. Volrath's Stronghold is best for this, as you need no mana to cast it... only to use it.

4 Viashino Heretics -- most other people will be using artifact mana, so methods to destroy others is some good.

As you want to dig in your graveyard, use Whetstones, Worry Beads, Anvils of Bogarden, and lots of searchers to get them in play. As you want to kill with Living Death, run Night Soil or Carrion Beetles IOT prevent opponents from benefitting from the Living Death.

Erik,

Maybe you should include the site address so peolpe can
check the B&R list.

I'd put atleast one Avatar of Woe in the deck.

Just a thought,
Caveman

Is the restricted/banned list the same as Type I? Cause if it is, you can only use one Frantic Search.

My friends and I play a version of Magic sometimes, called "speed". You draw until you have 7 cards in your hand each turn and you may put as much land down as you want. Most of the Legends work beautifully here, especially Rubina Soulslinger and Lord of Tresserhorn. As soom as the Lord hit the table, game was over.

10 Plains

Do the beatdown decks have enough speed to overcome by fire what they can't with weenies? Or should I make it nealy R/B and throw in lots of Land destruction, with mana developers in Green, utility in White and denial in Blue?

Thanks for reading the long post, and please don't suggest cards that are more than $15 for the deck.

What about Vitalizing Wind, Invigorate, and Hunted Wumpus? Any of these are better than Bounty of the Hunt, IMO. You may see an ugly creature or two when you play the Wumpus, but you have enough removal to take care of it. Speaking of removal, why not Plague Wind? I mention both these winds as you should have ample mana to cast them when necessary.

If you are a risk taker, you might consider Forsaken Wastes. Both Fallen Askari and Erg Raiders might also be considered, as they will always be attacking, any way.

Propaganda is perhaps blue's best multiplayer card. Given that you have Armageddons and other land denial in your deck, as well as a more offensive than defensive deck, you might consider it.

Green has the Skyshroud Elite -- 1/1 elves for G that gain +1/+2 if an opponent controls a nonbasic land. Considering the environment you are playing in, it might help. Why not River Boas and Rushwood Dryads? Both are 2/1 landwalkers that will definitely see their landwalk used, and the River Boa regenerates, to boot.

Political Trickery can turn your basic lands into your opponent's useful multicolor lands, helping you while potentially slowing your opponent.

Speaking of mana, why not Fellwar Stone? Produces one mana of any color an opponent can produce. I still like the idea of Quirion Elves, though.

Spire and Sage Owls are both 1/1 flyers that let you set the top 4 cards of your library. Very useful in a large deck.

I've tried to keep my recommendations to cards with a single colored mana in the casting cost. I think I succeeded, and hope my ideas help.

My 5color deck is horrible, because I refuse to spend money on it. The basis is that there are in fact 6 types of 5 color decks

5cGreen: Uses Bops and other green mana sources to cast creatures of all shapes and sizes.

5cBlack: Living death! Living death, or any graveyard recursion! Usually includes green for survival of the fittest

5cRed: A rarer version, with either sneak attack, or pyromancy.

Donais: Don't ask me, I've never seen it played

5cSplit: The types of decks we're posting here. ones that use a variety of spells and a variety of methods. You will NEVER see these decks hit the big time, but dammit, they're fun.

Now, These are just the archetypes here, you can scarndalize and vandalize 'em all you want. I personally like 5cgreen/control, because it's cheap, and I LOVE living death decks, if you have the time and money.

Please remember that this thread is in reference to 5Color Magic, not 5c Decks. 250 minimum cards, 18 cards minimum in each color.
