Yes, I like Gundam Wing and DBZ, though I don't have enough money to buy tapes or anything. I'm also waiting for Cartoon Network to translate Tenchi Muyo. Which is supposed to be good, I hear.

Since I live in Japan, I get some Japanese stations and they have Anime. The times and dates always change (don't know why), but I have seen some cool shows. Tenchi rocks, but so does Project AKO, Mobius, and Galaxy Cowboy. None of them are in English or subtitled, but you get the jist of them. Also, the Japanese doesn't seem to mind that they are risque. No outright sex scenes, but soft porn nonetheless. My friend had some Tenchi Muyo on VHS and the english translation is pretty good. If I knew how to read Japanese, I could schedule my VCR to record some of them, but I'm too lazy to take Japanese classes. Would any of you be interested in some random (if I get lucky) Japanese anime? The shows usually run only 30 minutes, but occasionally they have 2 hour blocks. Let me know, 'kay?

Eh. Don't like Anime much myself, though my friend are (and, though them, I've watched quite a bit). Kenshin ranks as the absolute worst I've ever seen. Ladies and gentlemen, I present you with a direct quote from Kenshin:

"I measured the length of his arm with my sword."

Oh. My. God. BAD scripting alert.

On the other hand, Mononoke Hime is simply awesome. The plot was solid as hell, and the whole idea behind it was brilliant. It was completely impossible to define any one of the three (or four) sides involved in it as "good" or "evil." Very interesting, actually ranks as one of the top 5 movies I've ever seen.

"In the moonlight."

You've seen the translated version? Do you know where I could get a copy of that? I've seen the Japanese version three times and it rocks, but without english dialogue, it lacks a little. Just a little trivia;
"Do you know what Mono-noke Hime translates to in English?"

answer, "Jungle Princess" :)

The creator of Mono-noke Hime is famous in Japan and made a lot of great Anime. Valley of the Winds (Nausicaa), Graveyard of the Fireflies, Laputa, Totoro, and Kiki's Delivery Service, to just name a few. Here's a link to a site about Hayao Miyazaki.
http://www.nausicaa.net/miyazaki/

Disney supposedly made a deal with Ghibli to promote and translate some of Miyazaki's films, since they could NOT prove they didn't steal the "Lion King" from Osamu Tezuka's earlier film, "Jungle Taitei". The resemblence is uncanny. A young white lion grows to become king of the jungle with the help of a talkative bird, a wise old baboon, and evil hyenas. Hmmmm...sounds familiar. Even the lion's name is similar, "Timba"! Anyhow, just a little extra info. Please let me know if you can find a dealer for the english Mononoke. Thanks. :)

I love anime.

anyone here NOT seen Vampire Hunter D?
the best one I've seen, yet. havn't seen THAT mutch, though.

just don't watch "maden of desire"
the back of the cover makes it out to be interesting, but it's nothing but pornography w/animation.

However, Heavy Metal is a great american film that anime lovers might want to check out. great story, storyline, animation and soundtrack.
another american animation you might like is American PoP. a bit difficult to understand at first vewing, you might have to watch it again to get the details and understand it.
hmmm... sounds like HM...

Gumby Kahn, do they still have those little plastic M.U.S.C.L.E. figures over there in Japan? I think there called kinkuman or somthing similar. Do they show the anime for it? they need to relese them here again...

I saw Vampire Hunter D about 2 years ago, the animation was on point (I'm a complete sucker for gratuitous animated violence and gore) but I thought the scripting could have been a little better. Of course there is always a loss of meaning and flow in translation.

Every Sunday at midnight in June cinemax has been running classic Japanese anime and I haven't missed one yet. If you want to see it there only showing 1 more.

Week One - Ninja Scroll - A classic, 100 mins long, killer movie w/ a good storyline. Lots o' carnage.

Week 2 - Gouku 1 - Only 50 mins but this Sci-Fi anime absolutely kicked ass. The animation is top-notch, even though the movie was a little chauvanistic (spelling?) for my tastes. Definitely my fav of the 3 so far, have to find out if there are were any sequels made, I'm assuming so.

Week 3 - Wicked City - Very deep in its meaning and plot, basically commenting on the future of civilization tied to the Catholic religion, scientific foundations, and racial tolerances. The animation again was top-notch but it had too much cartoon porn for me. What is it about animated puntang that gets Japan off? I'm no prude by any stretch, it just seems kind of weird.

Week 4 - ?? I'll find out on Sunday.

If you want to see some anime staple classics, you might want to check some of these out.

P.S. Starz is airing Heavy Metal 2000 (that is the sequel) on July 14th (I think) at midnight. I'm taping it.

Mononoke Hime is great, english or otherwise. My friend was kinda enough to show me his copy, that's the only place I've ever seen it... To my knowledge, he acquired that at a comvention of some kind (NOVA?). From what I've heard, though, most of it can be ordered somewhere online. I'm no reference book, I can't help ya'. :( Sorry.

"I just watch the stuff..."

My friend's e-mail addresses (she gave me two) are:

juuchan@hotmail.com
&
juuchan@gundamwing.net

I'm betting the latter one has something to do with her website. I'll email her sometime.

BTW, have you ever tried to design your own Gundams?
I have. Tell me about your ideas! :)

Hey thanx Multani, if I designed a Gundam, itd be like Troa's, with tons of Gatling Guns, but Id also want one of those whips, and the Laser Gun from Gundam 00. That would be cool. And by the way, who all has a favorite Gundam, outta the original 5!

Fave Gundam: Wing Zero (Deathscye Hell in a close 2nd.)
The whip is from Gundam Epyon.
The "Laser Gun" is not a laser gun. It's a beam rifle, specifically called a "Double Buster Rifle".
Troa's Gundam, Heavyarms is not as good as you think.
He seems to have a constant habit of running out of ammo.
(Yes, my friend Gundam-crazed friend educated me a little.)
My suggestion: Add a Beam Sabre. It could come in very handy. :D

Beam Sabres are always a necessity, anyway, i did notice that about Longarms, but hes got those cool wrist swords, those things kik ass. I havent really watched a lot of Gundam Wing. I just started this season. So, ive got a lot to learn.

Here's my comments on the Gundam Pilots and other characters.

Katra- Crazy, acts and looks like a girl.
Heero- Suicidal/Homicidal maniac. Otherwise a nice guy. ;)
Duo- Funny/Hilarious. He's the embodiement of all comedy in Gundam Wing.
Wufei- Serious, an asshole. Slightely crazy.
Troa- Silent guy, great spy!

Relena- RELENA MUST DIE!!!!!!! Nough said... :D

My thoughts

Katra-Wussy ass pappas boy, who has PMS.
Wu Fe'(whatever)-Intensley crazy about strength, and winning. I hate him personally.
Troa- Kool, smooth, kinda like a prissy bond who never talks and has crazy hair.
Hero-Kool guy, smooth, clean cut, but silent and very focused, mature.
Duo-Funny, but immature and stupid, good fighter.

*puffs out his chest proudly and falls over coughing*

The shop I own is an anime and gaming store and I have about 1500 hours worth of anime in my personal collection (mostly fan-subbed). There is very little I haven't seen.

My top 5 favs are:

El-Hazard (Where I get my nick name from)
Maison Ikkoku (romantic comedy, awesome story)
Tenchi Muyo OAV's (the first 6 episodes)
kamagure orange road (romantic comedy with psychic powers)
Blueseed (great action series)

but if you want to get my reviews by my anime club on a bunch of shows, check my webpage at:
